whats the big deal that he has an alternative lifestyle? i do too, and am proud of that, and if people consider their own lives as boring or mundane, they should do something to change it instead of getting on their jealous hobby horses and trying to piss on someone elses choice.:p

What does leading an alternative lifestyle actually involve? What things do you do that are different from the norm?

i love missfran, i showed my boyfriend her sheep on holiday photos. he thought maybe she didnt have that many sheep. can we get a photo of all the sheep together to prove it? :D

:)

When I get home tonight I'll do a group pic. I warn you though, there are many sheep. Many, many sheep.

Poor Stanley. :(

We wouldn't caress his ego enough. :(

Poor, poor Stanley. :(

You really think I actually give a shit what you sad losers think?

Today, as someone living the alternative lifestyle of an artist, I will watch the F1 Grand Prix in a small bar. Then I'll go sketching in the street on my regular Sunday evening pitch. Hopefully I'll make enough cash for essential supplies and a bit for my regular Sunday evening meal at cafe Continental - it's a nice, clean, friendly and unpretentious place with a fantastic selection of cakes.

I'll also try and find a guy here who is quite literally dying on his feet. Either fallen through the system safety net, or was never a part of it. Fucking sad seeing people killing themselves through depression, or simply dying because they don't have the money to pay for health care. I think the only chance this guy has is to get himself back to his home country.

I may report back here this evening if anything unusual happens today :) Bet you knobs can't resist reading it and giving yourselves indigestion.

I may even go around town to see if any of my small paintings are still kicking about. Absolutely no motive other than a bit of a clear out. I thought it was funny.

So, then.

Our criticism is 'water off a duck's back' to you.

Then you lose your rag, call us all cunts and flounce off.

Then you come back.

Then you tell us that you don't give a shit about us and we're sad losers and you're going out.

But you'll probably be back to tell us all about something-or-other later.

Makes perfect sense. I'm glad we got that cleared up.

I thought it was funny.

So did we. :)

Sorry, don't really know why I'm getting involved here, but Stanley, your posts are really making me cringe.

I can't believe you think you're part of some higher calling, and leading this great, uninhibated "alternative lifestyle" when basically the only difference is that you don't have a job and occasionlly do some drawings!

I haven't mentioned anything about some higher calling. Far from it, I have both feet very firmly on the ground. I can assure you that I'm far from uninhibited. I'm actually a very conservative person in many ways.

The difference for me obviously comes from my own personal experience. I gave up being tied to a computer for 12 hours a day and living in a society that was becoming more suspicious and hostile by the day. Shit commuting. Very expensive.

I do have a job here. I'm an artist. I work my own hours, but have to put in the hours to make a living. The sun shines for all but 30 days of the year. I live my own way in a city with an incredibly varied culture and society that is, on the whole, very, very friendly. It's a very relaxed place. I have time to learn music and spend far more time socialising than I ever could in London.

I simply posted a thread about giving paintings away because I thought it was a bit of a laugh and instantly a few idiots claimed I was making a lifestyle statement

But, as they asked...

There is a world of difference between my old lifestyle and my new. The only thing that hasn't really changed is that I really don't care how others judge me. I'm quite comfortable with who I am - a lazy fucking hippie scruff shyster alcoholic artist who most people seem to enjoy the company of :)

I'm glad for you Stanley, you obviously enjoy your life, and it does sound more fun and interesting than an office job

But you do seem to have some very childish views about people who don't share you enthusiasm for yourself. you should start a blog, and people would read it, obviously if you post a thread on a bulletin board every time something remotely exciting happens in your life you will get flak

FFS!

No. Is every thread you start about your lifestyle?

Every thread, or post I make is about my life perspective. My view on things. What I'm doing.

That's all. Nothing else.

You are a shallow and boring cunt who reads and lives by the rules of lifestyle mags. That's obvious. Please don't read my threads in future. They're not meant for the likes of you.

See you could almost make that defence, except both you and Cheesie earlier dismiss anyone not "getting it," it as:

Boring.
Living by lifestyle mags.
Drones.
These things are not for the likes of you.

It reads like pure egotism. Look how so Bohemion creative and free my life is, you 9 - 5 losers.

Maybe I shouldn't have taken the bait? The accusation was fired at me initially. I only replied (to those few) in the way it deserved. I don't think people really understand what Bohemian is. My life is certainly far from it. People who try to live a creative, Bohemian lifestyle often end up living some boring pre-defined, outdated image. Plenty of them here. They do need rules and magazines to approve their 'choices'. It's laughable. Not a creative bone in their bodies.

Possibly a fine line between egotism and self-belief. You need loads of self-belief if you're going to try and do what I am doing. Some days the confidence drops to 0% and the danger is that your ego tries to over compensate.

The replies I give to wind-up internet merchants whilst under the influence of a few glasses of Rioja should be read as such. Drunken bollocks mostly. On the other hand, I am rightfully proud of what I've achieved here so far. I've been lucky, but it's true that you have to make your own luck. The hardest part is learning to ignore the many naysayers without letting your ego take control. Something no-one can really appreciate until they've tried it themselves. It's not easy. The vast majority give up and return to the safety of a conventional working life.

Funnily enough, Stanley, I quit the rat-race four years ago and have been travelling the world since. Asia mainly. I've been trying to get into travel writing / photojournalism with some limited success.

(Laughable, really. Not a creative bone in my body. And I really must cancel my subscriptions to all those lifestyle magazines.)

Your assumptions are really exceptionally wide of the mark on this occasion. But don't let that stop you thinking I'm a 9 to 5 drone who's beneath you.

I hadn't made any assumptions other than you're a right twat who accused me of bragging about my lifestyle simply because I posted about giving some paintings away.

Now look who's bragging about their alternative lifestyle?

And, like you I guess, I rely on the lifestyle/arts and travel magazines to a certain extent, so I guess I shouldn't go biting the hand that feeds. Got a very nice feature in a mag a few weeks ago alongside one of Spain's premier indie bands. It all helps.

I was goaded into posting about my own life and then everyone (well, not everyone) took it as a personal attack on their own lives that I know nothing about. It's all a bit strange

LOL.

Right, I'm off out to sketch and hopefully sell. Ignore all the people who look down their noses at me. Ignore the stupid remarks that I often get in the real world as well as on the internet. Possibly a Five hour session this evening followed by a long night of writing proposals and articles for submission. I usually take Monday's off, but I'm still recovering from a non paying client and a couple of weeks of not being able to work due to broken ribs. Given up chasing one client for payment. He'll pay eventually (when he wants more work), it seems to be the Spanish way.

Also have to source cash to fund a bit of an experiment in interactive digital art. AFAIK nobody has ever tried it before. Should be great fun.

I'll apologise in advance for any threads I start here in future. Can't promise I won't. It's the compulsive self-expressive in me. I just can't help myself.

Charcoal on yellow and orange 3 Meter lengths of craft paper this evening. Provided the police don't tell me to fuck off I should make enough to survive for another day. Or, a client might even give me a bit of cash. I really don't expect to be comfortably earning for another Two years yet. But, I will get there. I am actually in it for the dosh! I like having plenty of cash even if I've learned to really appreciate life without it.

How many views???
:D:D:D

Stanley - Fair play. Cary on doing what you want to do and ignore the minions that dont matter. If they add nothing useful to your life dont even bite at their comments.

NVP - Stop being a prick! If you have nothing of importance to add to a thread, and if Stanleys (allegedly) me,me,me attitude causes you some problems then dont fucking read his posts.

All the sheep - carry on with the bandwagon routine, one day you might get it right.
