I Just Left 10 Paintings in the Streets of Granada.

someone was leaving paintings around portsmouth. my brother found a doodley painting of a smiley sheep, that said 'its sheep we are up against!' on it. he has it on his desk at work. :D

i left some of my doodles from work under the plastic at a bus stop. does that count? :p

I'd love to think some of mine end up on office desks, but they lacked humour.

I have about 20 3x1 Meter panoramic sketches that I may go and spread all over the city tonight. I'm bored and it's hot. I'm not going to sleep tonight, so might as well do a bit of housework.

you could leave a note with them, saying that they are free for people to take?

Don't know what came over me. Very hot here tonight. Decided on a gentle stroll casually leaving small oil paintings in the streets :) None signed, or anything. Totally anonymous.

Wonder how many got picked up?

id be chuffed if i found a random anonymous painting in the street...id feel like it was my lucky day :D

Would you take it though? I'd probably hand it in at the police station thinking someone had lost it. :o

i would probably yeah :o :D

art is meant to be loved and admired, not left in a police lost & found to rot...if it did belong to someone (rather than an artist just leaving it, like if someone had just gotten it) then they obv didnt love it if they left it on the street so yeah id take it & love it!!! :p

:D

I had a small water colour painting in a nice frame and mount. Only painted it to sell because it was I thought people wanted. Three months later and it still hadn't sold. I put a price tag on it that read something along the lines as follows...

'Original water colour/acurela, signed and dated €49. If you're reading this you must be a little bit interested. I've been carrying this painting around now for almost Three months. I'll take a Tenner just to cover the cost of the frame. Actually, you can have it for free. If you're still reading you must be really interested. Just pick it up and walk away. It's yours for free. Honest.'

Nobody took it. I finally sold it last week for just €20. It is a beautiful little painting.

You just can't tell what will sell. It's mad.

Yeah. Of course. There are all sorts of different ways of living. And, whilst I may think I'm living a different way to an extreme, I'm not. I actually have to conform to more stereotypes than I have ever had to before.

Used to be a case of 'dress to impress', or act up a perceived concept based on the codes I lived to. Now it's all about 'dress to unimpress' and act down the perceived stereotype. Sort of. But, I'm really not acting, or looking for any measure of any kind from anyone these days. I really don't give a shit. I am the uncoolest looking twat in Granada. I earn very little. But, I fucking love what I do :)

Yeah, but, if you're honest, you're only dressing "like you don't give a shit" because you think it's cool...

Pisstaking aside, Stanley, here's a genuine question:

Was your motivation for this altruistic or egotistic?

Yeah, but, if you're honest, you're only dressing "like you don't give a shit" because you think it's cool...

Nope. I'm only dressing like I don't give a shit because I don't give a shit because I'm skint and will ware anything that does the job effectively.

I spent 15 years of my life telling people what was cool. Even then, whilst being paid to tell people what was cool I was undoubtedly one of the uncoolest people in London.

You're right in one sense. I do think it's cool not to be cool, but I don't have a clue how to sell real un-coolness to anyone. That maybe cool, or it maybe crap. I don't care anymore. I really don't. There are other things in life worth caring about far more.

Giving things away for free? This was just advertising, then?

You really don't get it do you?

I just fucking well live the way I want to live. Do the things I want to do. Help the people I want to help.

I feel incredibly lucky that I've found this life. I stumbled on it quite accidently and realised it was the way I wanted to live. I just live to enjoy everyday. There is no ulterior motive. I'm just enjoying the new life I found.

Does it matter?

We get the same affect. An artist disarding alms and flowers and themself. And then telling us about it.

Simple really innit?

:)

Fuck the artist bit. It's great to have the time and financial inhibitions to just give stuff away. It's great to have the time to spend with people. It's great just to have your own time. The majority of my time is now my time to do what I want to do. If I want to go around town giving paintings and sketches away then that's what I do. If I want to spend my time meeting people and chatting then that's what I do. If I want to spend my time helping people who have passed the point of helping themselves then that's what I do. Etc....

Not quite sure how this thread ended up here?

I get it.

I just don't understand why you think it's such a big deal. You start threads about your lifestyle about once a week, Stanley, when, as you've said yourself, you're not really all that different to the rest of us.

It gets a bit tedious.

For what its worth, I think the idea of giving your art away for free, randomly, is an interesting one. I remember the discussions recently when Radiohead gave their album away for nothing. It's an interesting debate. Throws up questions about who art is for, who benefits and all sorts of other stuff. Is it for the artist or the viewer? Interesting idea.

But this thread wasn't really about that, was it?

It was about you telling us about your lifestyle.

And that's why I'm taking the piss. :)

Don't call yourself santa. Just do it.

FFS!

No. Is every thread you start about your lifestyle?

Every thread, or post I make is about my life perspective. My view on things. What I'm doing.

That's all. Nothing else.

You are a shallow and boring cunt who reads and lives by the rules of lifestyle mags. That's obvious. Please don't read my threads in future. They're not meant for the likes of you.
