I just bought a TomTom

I wonder how you get the job of voicing the sat navs?
What a great idea - you could do call-and-response. Every time I bitch at you, you can respond 'fuck off' in a Northern accent :D

pm me an email i'll send you a zip with all the files for the voices etc... for evaulation purposes... but get the speed cams and traffic updates they are actually worth it...
 on its way

Soj, do you worry when you don't do what she tells you, I still do :o I keep thinking I wish I could explain that I needed to pull of the route to find a loo or something :o

I did at first. Then I realised that I could just turn the music up :D

Back on track function =

I think you should be able to choose which regional accent you want giving directions.

A broad ye olde west country accent would be class :D

Badman nuh use SatNav, badman use navigational skills, memory and A-Z map

However if you do not consider yourself to be a badman then satnav is perfectly acceptable... as long as you don't park in the canal or go the wrong way up one way streets 'because the satnav told you to' :D

About the only thing that annoyed me with my Tom-Tom was that window-suction holder. There is no way I would leave it visible in my car for security reasons alone, and eventually the bloody thing losings it holding powa. As an alternative, you can buy an Air Vent clip holder which serves the same purpose without the worry of losing the suction powa of the window mounted one. Unfortunately, the official bit of kit comes in a package which costs circa £20. Fortunately, you can pick up the vent holder itself from ebay for a fiver.

Excellent bit of kit, otherwise.

99% of the places i drive to I already know where they are and how to get to....no reason for a nav system in my car.

when i bought my honda 4 yrs ago the nav system was an $1,800 option and i told them to go screw themselves :D

I bought one earlier in the year, I have always been the worlds worst at following a map so its been nice to go a places and get there without to much of a diversion.

I thought it could only charge in the car - I got the Tom Tom One and the speed cameras are already on it.

Must say - I like it.

Oooh, I've been thinking about getting one of these cos I'm crap at finding my way around.

A couple of questions though. :)

Does the voice nag constantly and does it interfere with the stereo? I'm worried that it would get on my nerves. :(

It doesn't interfere with the stereo unless you wire it in some way to your stereo, which I think you can. So the stereo shuts up when its about to say "fucking turn left now" or something important.

Or you can just turn its volume down and look at the screen (without running over some unfortunate OAP who didn't show up on satnav, obviously!).

And it doesn't "nag". If you ignore its instruction to make a turn, it just thinks about where you now are, and gives completely voice-neutral directions. None of the "why didn't you go left, I told you in plenty of time" shit.

Giles.

Nah, me last one would get herself in a right tizzy if I was coming up to a roundabout with a sharp turn afterwards, and would repeat herself into a dalek-like frenzy, but this one is very relaxed about it. She tells you, for instance, 'in 300 yards, turn left', and when you get to the turn she tells you again. Also, you can check the visual display to make sure you're taking the right road, as the other roads turning left will be white, but the one you need will have a doofing great big illuminated arrow pointing at it :D

Nope, doesn't interfere with the stereo - mine's set to increase the volume at speed though, which is handy, as so is my stereo :D

I messed about with the preferences today, and set a bugle call, but I couldn't remember all the way home whether I'd set it for speed cameras, or speeding. I was getting bugled all the way home - it turned out to be NOT for speed cameras :o :D

I really, really love my new tomtom

nnnggggghhhh

I already TOLD you. The Gold Dollar! You were going to find out where it was...

I don't care if it's shut down. Or even knocked down. Just find out where it was/is, and take some pics of the building/empty lot/new road :D

They are when driving abroad where they don't paint cams bright yellow, still hide them behind trees and don't signpost them half a mile in advance. and only have a few of them
But as soon as I drive into the UK I have to switch the feature off 'cause it just goes beserk and dosn't stop pinging warnings out :D
