I haz kitteh!!!!!

I really hope he comes out soon:(

Don't worry - When I got my current two, one of them took to the flat in no time at all, whilst the other spent most of its time under the bed for the first fortnight. Only venturing out in the dead of night to eat/use its litter tray & scurrying back to safety if anyone disturbed it.

Then one night, I heard more noise than usual & rolled over in bed, just in time to see her launch herself off the bedstead & arc through the air to land on my crotch, before running round to do the same thing again.

After that, she was in her element & at home. :)

So leave some food & water within reach & look out!

Ok fab.
He found his food and water last night so Ill leave it where it is and hope he comes out
He was happy for me to stroke him just now and moved his back end towards my hand although he didnt make any more of a move towards me.

Im trying to stop the kids shouting etc so its calm for him too

This is a heavy xmas pudding tat

I went for forcibly removed him from the depths of the cupboard for a cuddle and now hes quite happily exploring the living room after covering me with hair and purring merrily for about 20 minutes while digging his claws into me and the sofa ( arrgh- time to dig out those throws!)
I think Ill shut him firmly in here for a few days

bollox ! i was gonna post a lovley pic of my kittenz but all that comes up is a red x grrrrrrrr

as you were..

Apparently they show you their bums cuz Mother Kitties like to examine kittens bums for health reasons. So that's why we get so much bum in our face :)

ERK... He's started venturing out a little, when the kids arent here mainly!
But Ive just discovered hes not coming out to pee. He used his litter tray last night and knows where it is. I just went to get him out from under the christmas tree and he's soaking wet. hes peed all over himself:( He didnt spray anywhere else, it doesnt look like he deliberately marked his terrirtory or anything as its all over him. He's dripping wet!

any ideas??

Bath time, methinks.

Enjoy...

*Gives evil grin, knowing how cats are about being bathed*

He's sorting that himself to be fair:D
I just dont want him to be scared to come out and keep doing it:(

I'd recommend letting him find his way as much at his pace as possible. Everything will be very new to him and it's bound to unsettle the little mite a tad.

When he does venture out and about, give him lots of attention and his favourite foods and he'll be boss and ruler of all he surveys in no time.

Oh, and appeal to his ego. For some strange reason, cats like this.

was it a way from where his tray is? ours had a couple of accidents on the landing cos their litter tray was just too far away for little kitteh bladders :)

though even then it was very neat and they didn't get wet themselves

maybe your house is just too loud/chaotic for kittehs :(

Ive been trying to keep everything quiet. The house he has just come from was VERY loud with 6 other animals ( he had been on his own before then) and they used to prevent him getting his food, using the liter tray etc

I think he is just finding it a bit much settling. He comes out quite happily when you drag him out gently and cuddle him ( hence me finding the wet fur!) and now hes out hes happy to be out, lounging on the living room floor.

Im having to ban my son from 'going to see the cat' because I dont think hes ready for anyone else but seems quite content with me

I think the only reason that could have happened if he's not ill is that you're maybe trying to settle him in to a part of the house that is too busy for a new cat.

I've always left mine in the bedroom (or a spare room) the first few days, they get a lot of quiet time during the day to explore that one room and to use the litter tray and eat in peace, you can go in every couple of hours and sit on the floor throwing treats under the bed, and they usually come out of hiding and check you out while you're asleep which helps them adjust to you quicker. My oldest one that I introduced spent about 9 hours under the bed but didn't have any accidents and ate OK when left to his own devices, we went to bed with him still hiding under there but when we woke up he was on the bed between us purring his head off :)

our two were never quiet

nor did they ever hide when they arrived

I think we should have known then what we'd let ourselves in for tbh :D

Maybe Ill put him in my bedroom... then I can completely ban anyone from going near him until hes happier
I think that's a very good idea, he can have some quiet time and will feel a lot happier and settle in better I'm sure :) Older cats need time to find their feet and can find a new home terrifying.

It was kind of accidental that he wound up in here first... the door came off the cat basket he was in and he bolted. I figured it was better to leave him alone until he decided to come out himself

Mine that I had as kittens were the same, they just want to be out and exploring! The one that hid under the bed was a year old when I got him - old enough to have established his old home as his territory and have set routines and he probably felt like his world had been shattered when he first came to live here. He did pretty well and settled in really quickly for an adult cat though :)

:D I can picture it, I have had a cat burst a door off a carrier before (in a car rather than on the bus thankfully!) so I can imagine the scene!
