I have *The Don* of keyboards

Dell don't have talk some shite. Have you tried www.laptopsdirect.co.uk? I have found them very good to deal with.
Cool - yeah, they're the people in the link in my later post. Always good to have a personal recommendation - thanks! :) They're way cheaper than the other online sellers apart from a couple of cowboy outfits that get bad reviews all over the place. And they're doing cheap memory so I've doubled up tp 4GB RAM and it's still less than £1k inc delivery when the others are £1019 for the machine alone. :D

Holy crap. I didnt even notice it has no numpad. extra SHITCOCK points. Numpad is ESSENTIAL, even more so than two-line return
I hardly ever use my numpad and given the choice of a boring numpad and a cool orange glowing touch thingy, well, there's no contest!

:D

I want one of these...

Yeah, they're pretty good. Ordered my laptop at 3pm on a Thursday and had it by 10am the next day :)

Many of my passwords are numeric sinice the ninjaboy hack on my account, and I have a load of keyboard shortcuts mapped to it in photoshop. It would be like losing my thumb!

I've got loads of Photoshop shortcuts too, but what's wrong the standard number keys along the top?

They're so much slower! Expecially if you're putting decimal points in. And if you're using the calculator, getting to +-/*= is hardly the easiest thing to do.

Oh yes. I'm always inputting decimal places, me!

This isn't meant to be a keyboard for pen pushers, statisticians and spods.

It's for stylish, hip, young professionals in designer flats like, err, um....er.... someone else.

There really is no excuse for not having a numeric keypad these days.
Unless you never use them, of course!

I should send you a picture of my current keyboard - the numpad is covered in dust, while the number keys along the top are starting to wear out.

Buy a Mac you fecking ponce.

No numeric keyboard, way overpriced and a lousy return key and you're defending this thing.

  ;)

"Buy"? What is this strange language you speak?

Ok so I'm not a computer geek, but the lackof numpad is a bit meh, isn't it?

Maybe it's just 3 years working in a data-entry-heavy job but anytime I key in numbers I use the number pad - makes more sense to me iyswim?

Horses for courses innit? This laptop is for work and I'm a statto so it matters - couldn't give a shit about the graphics and gaming aspects (well, can't justify them in the budget anyway). Editor has almost opposite needs. Neither is wrong/right. To be honest, I don't even need a number pad that often/intensively, it's just the only bit of the keyboard I am completely reliable with for touch-typing and I miss the feeling of competence. :o

One-line return key = SHITCOCKS

Disclaimer: I've used one of these and will be buying one soon. For a normal keyboard it sucks due to, amongst other things:
  • Stupid small return key
  • Insert key group are all in the wrong order
  • Keys don't have a hole lot of travel
  • No fecking number pad

Reasons it utterly rocks with my HTPC (which has a remote but using it is cumbersome for things like video editing):
  • Bluetooth, so colossally long range
  • Long battery life and an inductive charger
  • Built in trackpad and volume slider

It is also one of the prettiest keyboards I've ever used, but most people will get annoyed with it very quickly in normal usage. Especially vim users ;)

Are you too old to be like, err, um....er...... someone else?

Anyway, let's see your mouse then

I have the wireless one at home, and the wired one at work. Ignore the dinky laptop one :)

The extra buttons are fantastic. The software I use at work is about 10% faster when I map common comands to the buttons. At home, All three exposé functions are mapped. Fasted app switching EVAR :)

Just noticed, you can't see there's two more buttons on the thumb side.

Useless for lefties, of course.

So what are all the extra buttons for? I know middle one is probably scrolling and I've a feeling one of the side ones might be to click to go back on web pages.

my lovely shiny new dell xps has nice shiny lights on its keyboard too. much better than that one. hehe oops my desktop keyboard came from maplins and was only 45 quid. that lights up too. in three different colors. andit also has a brightness button .

i will see if i can find a link.

it still goes QWERTYUIOP

It does doesn't it! It would only take about a fortnight to get used to a different keyboard layout so why they haven't all changed to somethign more sensible I don't know... :(

It looks lovely though, ed. :)

I'm not a fan of logitech keyboards anymore. My last couple have been dreadful. Keys are too spongy, and they've broken really quickly. Still love their mice though.

Agree. Cherry or Accuratus make the best keyboards IMHO. I do find the Edge a litte spongy, but it's typically the small travel I'm most annoyed with (which is a side effect of the design anyway).
