i have never seen a single episode of the wire...

...am i alone? :hmm:

and i get very very bored with american TV series, even if they are really good. they just go on too long. i like a series to last about 8 episodes. so i doubt i'll even bother starting to watch the wire.

i'm sorry if that's incorrect :(

Nope, I haven't either.

I only started watching it about two weeks ago. It's good, sometimes very good, but I found it didn't live up to the hype.

I got into Generation Kill much quicker and I don't usually like army stuff.

yeah, but your on what? series two?

I enjoyed it as a series and didn't think it worth the Urban adulation until hitting series three.

once seen it's entirety you tend to realize what a well crafted drama it is. I've never seen a tv series like it tbh. Generation Kill is easier to get into for a few reasons. Not going into them now because I'm currently arguing with someone on another forum.

OOOO, who are you arguing with and where so we can all join in.

Is it about Generation Kill? Which is good, BTW, but not as good as The Wire.

The advertising-based drama Mad Men, last week voted 'better than trees' by the American Tree Institute, was described by one critic as 'magnibulous'.

I love the Daily Mash...

Unless you care to argue that the Jaghut Tryrants had it coming from the T'lan Imass and in their turn the Imass deserve the Fokrul A'sail pwning they are currently undergoing then I doubt you can join in. Unless you challenge my assertion that the K'chain Chemalle are inherently harder-assed deamon spawn than the Teblor Tarthenal?

Fair enough. Is this Everquest, WoW or some other MMORPG I've not heard of?

No, it's the best anti-heroic and in depth fantasy series since Gene Wolfe put pen to paper. The Malazan Book of The Fallen, now on it's seventh book.

Steven Erickson and Ian Cameron Esselmont devised the world together as part of an RPG project that never made it. The writing impressed the right people and the books resulted from this, Ian writing small scale covering a few days in important events in his two short books, and Steven covering epic scale in his biblical sized seven tomes.

In fantasy terms they are quite unique. The world lives and breathes in a way only outdone by China Mieville. Characterization, dialog etc are excellent and the brutal disregard for loved characters and fantasy norms is refreshing.

I always thought "Well it can be interesting but I wouldn't subscribe"

I've never even heard of The Wire. I agree that some shows drag on for too long, but eight episodes seems a bit short for a TV series.

I saw half of one. Over-clever dialogue.

I've just watched the first series last week. As in last week I mean 2 days as I could not stop myself from watching. Its an amazing show, just waiting for the second series to come from the postman.

I've never even heard of The Wire. I agree that some shows drag on for too long, but eight episodes seems a bit short for a TV series.

12 or 13 eps per season, full 60 mins per ep. By normal US standards that would work out at either 90 mins per broadcast episode, or around 18-20 eps on 1hr slots.

But it's shown on HBO and they don't have commercial breaks. I think.

'By normal US standards, each would 90 minutes' - this is at least how long each uncut ep would be with ad breaks. This would mean there would be about 18-20 episodes per season if they were rammed into 60 minute slots with ad breaks.

See?
