I have made a sort of bolognese sauce and it's horrible

To stop you pouring in a big glug of it

I'm beginning to wish I'd never started this thread :D

Shall I go and have a look at the container and tell you what's in it?

I'm not so much disturbed by what might be in it, as by the notion that you would spray oil at something instead of just, well, pouring it on.

Perhaps you could buy an eyedropper to use in conjunction with some conventionally packaged oil.

Before you throw it away though, I think you should spray it on a naked flame and see what happens; maybe you would get a fun flamethrower effect.

I haven't thrown it away yet.

Okay, ready?

Sunflower oil (60%), water, emulsifier, lecithin, alcohol, antioxidant, vitamin E ()

It's vegetarian and gluten free though :D

The oil speaks for itself. The water is a way of providing bulk whilst minimising the amount of that oh-so-harmful oil. The emulsifier is to stabilise the emulsion i.e. the oil and water mixture. Lecithin is a specific tye of emulsifier (usually from egg yolk). The alcohol is the propellant. Antioxidants are reputed to have beneficial propertied in terms of health (although recent large scale tests bring this into question). Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant.

All in all, a bit of a waste of time; tastes like shit and you proabably receive more health benefits from the monounsaturated fat in olive oil. The only plus is that you tend to use less, but you could acheive the same thing by pouring a splash of another oil in a pan and wiping it out, so that there's just a very thin coating on the pan.

Personally, I prefer to cook with lard, as you can do so much more with it.

If you do *have* to use spray oil as a part of your diet then I recommend Crisp'n'dry over Fry Light as I've also found my food sometimes tastes funny using fry light. You need to stand by the frying pan at all times and keep the food moving so it doesn't stick, which is a bit of a pain in the arse.

Nobody *has* to use it!

And I can't do exercise anymore because I have a baby so I'm restricted to walks at weekends which isn't much good.

Methinks someone is fibbing. I definetly saw fitness dvds on your shelf :p
1/2hr two nights a week once foal is in bed will certainly help.

I'd rather exercise more than eat less too and don't drink very often so no 'empty' calories there.

Can you recognise the ingredients of Fry Light then? :D

I will spray some over the gas cooker flame and see what happens.

My sauce actually doesn't taste too bad but I'm having chicken salad tonight and will tackle the dodgy sauce tomorrow. Actually more than anything, it's just really bland and doesn't have the depth of flavour my bolognese normally does. I quite often add a few anchovies and I was being very mean with the salt because of sharing it with the baby. I think I'll put a small amount in a pot for him as is and add a load of chili to the rest of it

Haven't done any since he was born. I'm too knackered :o
