I concur that the pubs in Muswell Hill are a bit rubbish.

For a good gastro-pub, which also has good real ale, I'd suggest The Victoria Stakes at the bottom of Muswell Hill.

Further into Crouch End, there is The Maynard Arms on Park Road. And the Queen's Arms on Tottenham Lane is a nice old Victorian boozer.

The pub by the Rasoi Indian restaurant on Fortis Green Road is good. Great jukebox and good mix of old Londoners and locals and not remotely gastro'd or full of twats. Think it's called the Alexandra and it's opp The Clissold which is totally gastro and souless. And I like the Bald faced Stag opp the cinema in East Finchley but then I'm a middle class cunt, so I would wouldn't I.

I pretty much checked out all the suggestions and seem to call in at o'niels more often than not, cheap booze and always a few characters knocking about.

Found the JB to be a bit sterile and always smelling of bleach or piss and very very quiet, best one has got to be Royal Oak but can never be arsed with the walk back up the hill.
