I have bought my first ever sweet potato

go crazy like Americans and have them sweet with a savoury dish (candied sweet potatoes!)

i went to a thanksgiving meal once, it was delicious but very confusing. :confused::D

sweet 'taters are one of my favourite things evar! baked, roast or fried- wedges with sweet chilli and sour cream is nomtastic. :D
 
I've read that the first potatoes brought back from the New World were in fact sweet potatoes. Not sure how much truth there is in that.
 
i have also heard that :)

also that the first corn was blue... don't know how much truth there is in that.
 
Roast it with some regular potatoes, red onions and carrots (add plenty of rock salt and ground black pepper); towards the end break in some feta cheese and if you like hotness some fresh chopped red chillies.

Or roast with peppers, red-skinned potato (desiree, for example), whole cloves of garlic, wedges of red onion and halloumi on top. :)

I would like to substitute all our spuds for sweet potatoes, but my husband won't have it.

It took him over a year to get to grips with the fact that roasted sweet potatoes do not go crispy the same way normal spuds do :rolleyes:
 
cut it into slices about the thickness of a pond coin, strew it generously with small flecks of butter and dark brown sugar (molasses or whatnot sugar, not demerara), or alternatively a bit of maple syrup instead, tiny bit of salt if the butter wasn't salted, bit of cinnamon on top, bake gently till it's browned on top and cooked through.

(it's a pudding, so you could have it with icecream or greek yoghurt if you wanted.... however like most of the wronguns on here ... I find it's improved by a bit of black pepper even if you've made it pretty sweet.)

or the everpopular soup: fry some onions in butter, adding a bit of chopped red chili or roasted red pepper if you fancy, throw in cubed sweet potato, add stock or water, boil till soft, whizz it in a blender. Then add cream/yoghurt/parsley or anything else you have.

sweet potato is sweet.
