I have an important interview!!!

tbh when you've had a few jobs and been treated like crap in most of them, you stop worrying about whether you're going to piss off the employer by leaving quickly or whatever. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, so you gotta learn to be a bitch :p

having said that, it depends how much you need the money. if you can hold out a few more weeks without, then there's no point in accepting a job you are fairly sure will be shit. if you do need money immediately though then I'd say take the job and keep on looking.

Ok, I will be meaner

me being meaner -

:D

I would start on the 28th and get paid weekly which, at the moment, is fucking handy financially. I don't think I'll be shit at the job it's just that I don't really want to work there + I don't want to have to do these modules to get an NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy assistant or whatever...

I suppose I will stay there two or three weeks and if I get any other offers I'll just tell them something or other and leave.

Couldn't you ask them for a bit more time, and say you have another interview which may result in a better paid job? ;)

Nah, could you heck!!! Even though you'd be telling the truth, I'm sure they wouldn't like to hear it...

I did sort of ask them for more time and they were a bit meh about it.....

jodal - you're right, thanks :)

i say go for it, enjoy the financial reward and then quit... it's MUCH better to be working than sitting at home poor or job hunting. i say that from experience!

It's hard to look for a job when you're already working though - unless its an office job with internet access etc.

I'd turn it down and wait for something cooler. Although in saying that, when I started my current job I wasn't sure it was going to be me, so I told them I'd had a better offer elsewhere (total rubbish). They asked me how much I'd been offered, I made up a number and they bettered it  I accepted it then - it just seemed right all of a sudden.

i didn't say *you* would be shit at it SZKittie - it just looked like you might find it shit.

it's pretty stupid of them to pay £5.50 p/h if they want someone dedicated to the job anyway. they pretty much *deserve* to be punished for their scrooginess :D

Innit!

I can't actually look for a job whilst working there but like I said, I'm waiting to hear back from people.

Also, I have the rest of this week + next week to keep applying for jobs.

for 5.50 an hour you can buy my presence maybe, but you can't buy my commitment.

I like it :D

Ok, I will go for it and stay there until I find something better (hopefully soon) that pays bloody better as well!

I guess I should just not care about what happens to them after I leave eh? (And why the fuck do I feel really mean typing that?! )

Hang on, will they be teaching you stuff about mixing drugs??

Go for it!!!!! :D

Seriously, it could be interesting, and you'd be learning something! ;)

Leaving after a bit to go to a better job isn';t fucking anyone over. My sister's mate worked in the co-op for a bit, and one day this girl started work there. They hadn't checked her ID in any way nor did they have her address yet, so as soon as the supervisor left the floor, she emptied the till and ran for it. And they never caught her.

That is fucking over your employer. But still hilarious.

(Oh yeah.... WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!)

Yeah I'd go for the job but keep applying for other positions. I wouldn't feel bad about leaving if you scored something better. Esp. if next week you find out you've actually landed that job in the city. You're not due to start this job until end of the month... is that right? So if you land something else beforehand, they'll still have time to get someone else in... even if it's just a temp while they resume the recruitment process. And as peeps have said £5.50 is a bit cheeky esp. since they're expecting commitment.

Congrats anyway! I feel a celebratory drinking sesh is in order for tonight. :)

Best of luck. I hope you get the other job in the city. I always feel more confident in job interviews if I have a job. But the problem with having a job is I never have time to fill in application forms. There is always a chance that you might really enjoy this job, plus its experience. I hope its much better than the nursery job. If you don't like the job its probably not worth sticking with it, see how you feel. By the way I'm not the best at sticking with jobs, even ones I kind of like.

I am going for the shit paying job because although I don't want it, it's convenient at the moment - they pay weekly, it's a 15 min walk from my house and I finish at 1pm on thursdays

And if I get called for second interviews I will attend them and see what my options are.

I would quite like the TV society job but I would also quite like the receptionist job in Woodford...

We'll see eh? Cheers everyone :)

Everyones banging on about them only paying £5.50p/h which yes is a bit shit if youre not interested in sector but they are also paying for you to do an NVQ - not sure how much that would cost them but surely its good that theyre investing in their staff and making sure that theyre properly trained to do their job?
