I Have An Ambition

Dinosaur Jr would have to do a song...maybe "The Fool" just for some fuzzy guitar thrash antics :D

I don't get why a credit in the CD sleeve for Dub would be such a bad thing.

I don't get how you could assist him.

I don't get why you would insist on anonymity.

Could you explain? Don't you think Dub would deserve credit for the concept and choice of bands to cover the songs, like a curator, if you will?

So may questions.
I would have thought that a man of your experience and maturity would appreciate that credit is sometimes given to those who do not ask for it. In my opinion that sort of credit is more deserved. I think this is what the essence of Dubs project is all about , that Mangan and NMH deserve that credit.

Dub , I think has cracked on to that.

I am not sure what your interest is PK. Are you a fan like me of NMH? or a fan of Dubs?

Find out who owns the publishing and the copyright for the songs before doing anything. If you find out that half the band own half the rest of the band own a quarter a managment compnay own the other quarter and no one is talking to each other you could have problems.

Ermm.... cover versions aren't the same as samples.

Samples need clearance from the composer, the lyricist, the performers (or, if any were stupid enough to "assign" their rights, the company that now owns these) - and the holder of the separate right in the recording, (called in the jargon the "mechanical right") which will belong to the record company.

Assuming I remember correctly, there's a "compulsory licence" for cover versions: that means you can do them, without asking the lyricist or composer: you just have to make arrangements to give them a fair cut. And the mechanical right - usually the deal-breaker for a sample - obviously doesn't apply.

Contact British Music Rights. They're on the musos' side (though don't tell their record industry funders all at once).

LOL, sweet baby Jesus... Frank, have you met Donna Ferentes yet?

You would get on well with him I think, pontificating on the inanities of life.

Nothing wrong with Donna , PK.
Anyway what is your favourite NMH song?

My apologies Dub. perhaps it's just me but i find PK's in your face attititude a bit too much on occassions.Perhaps I read too much into it. I knew that you knew what I meant.

Anyway have you listened to much of A Hawk and a Hacksaw? It was no suprise to find out that the kid behind Beirut played with them.

For someone with 48 posts you seem to be able to make snap judgements... Who were you called before then? Banned returning poster or just fancied a namechange?

I don't really care either way, but it would be nice if people knew who they were dealing with if you are pretending to have so much insight on others...

Anyone who browses these boards , even if they don't post often ,can come to a very quick conclusion about certain posters. In your case depending on what mood you are in it can be quicker than others. I don't mind giving you the benefit of the doubt, it may be just an unfortunate conicidence . Anyway let's allow this thread to continue as it started: about NMH and a tribute album. What did you say your favourite track was? You are a bit of a muso aren't you?

I want to hear Nina Nastasia doing King of Carrot Flowers pt 1. or Communist Daughter.
Beirut should probably get a go at something, since he clearly wants to be NMH, and is quite good with it.
PJ Harvey would be splendid, for sure.

Comedy option- Various Productions doing Two Headed Boy pt 2

It's hard- how do you choose anyone? Who's going to be able to do justice to the source material, and more importantly, how is a collection of covers by different artists ever going to be able to have that coherence that makes In The Aereoplane such an incredible album as opposed to a"just" a mind-blowing collection of songs?

Jeff Mangan
