I have 100+ negatives from the 1920s, how can I get them scanned/developed?

I discovered a box of 100+ negatives my granddad took in the 1920s. He developed the negatives at home and therefore they're all different shapes and sizes and so perhaps not suitable for a regular home scanner. Here is a picture of one of the negatives for size comparison (that's my thumb):

I went to Metro Imaging in EC1 and paid to get 6 photos developed but at £5+ per photo, it's too expensive for me to get more done. They're really interesting. Here are a couple I paid for:

    Pretty cool, huh?

Negatives I haven't got developed include several of the original Crystal Palace, Brockwell Park, London Zoo, and various family photos.

    Can anyone help please? :)

Stupid question: so these are slides then? Not negatives?

Is there a decent amateur photography club in your neck of the woods ? mrsfran
That might be a source of equipment and expertise, failing that local history society or local authority archives might have some ideas or suitable contacts. I had some slides scanned by a local arts/film project in the summer, they are loosely attached to the local college.

That's a good idea, I'll ask on a local FB page.

They do all sizes and they're affordable. Why not give them a call/email?

I rigged up a basic lightbox with my tablet, took photos of the negatives and then inverted the colours using paint.net and fiddled with some filters. It's not great but I can at least see them properly :)

And the man who took the photos, my granddad (the young fella with the ears sitting on the ground). That's my great-granddad standing at the back and what I assume is my great-grandmother sitting. No idea who the other two were. Photo taken 27th Jan 1927 :)
