I had a dream- Revolution

I had the impression he was International Bolshevik Tendency. You know, three men and a dog.

Well, like Stalin said- "a chicken in every pot, a bullet in every trot".

As for education? I left school at 15 with no qualifications (shitty secondary modern education and selection). However, later in life due to many factors primarily unemployment I returned to education and completed a couple of O' levels, then an Open University foundation course, followed by a two year access course. Finally, I managed to get a place at a Polytechnic (which changed to a University half way through) on a full-time degree course (I still owe two grand to the student loan company) and graduated. Hard work, but worth it in the long run.

Good for you. Herman, if he is who I think he is, or if he has been acting on someone elses behalf, has been attempting to take the piss. But the poor lad has had his thread backfiring on him. I completed an access course last year, and now have the quals to apply for university. But that just isn't working class, edukayshun *sigh*. Anyway though, where ever I end up, it won't be Cambridge.

I mean, I am no intellectual. I work wit'ands and lift heavy objects for a living. :D

One fashion trend that I noticed recently was the prominence of the Union Jack...there was that spice girls dress and then beaded UJ tops and I've seen a number of clothes in shops with more subtle UJ imagery, like the shape but not the colours.

I have wondered where it comes from...cool britainnia is long gone, but the imagery is sticking around...

(I should note that it sticks out like a sore thumb up here in Scotland!)

It is indeed sticking round. I don't like to give too many personal details out on the net, but I will mention that i sort of work at the sharp end of the fasion industry- in the warehouse of a major clothing retailer. One thing I have noticed in recent years at work is not just the stuff coming through with UJ on but also the stuff with the George Cross on.

Despite all the stuff Billy Bragg come out with about reclaiming the flag I have always found the George Cross thing a little unsettling, possibly because of the many negative associations with that flag over the years.

I found it particularly unsettling when I lived in Portsmouth,a town that seems to pride itself not only with flag waving at every opportunity but celebrating all things millitary.

When the union jack thing came about I thought it was something to do with Britpop and a nod in the direction of the sixties mod thing, I maybe wrong. But as a fasion thing, you are right, it has seemed to stick around for ages.

I dont think you know me, but whoever you think I am, please don't say you think I'm ernie. Incidentally if you wanted to see if you did know me you could just look at my pic on the redwatch site and see if you recognised the face.

Also, and this is important, please do not think I am taking the piss, its not really my style.

Finally, I do not think any thread that explores ideas is backfiring on anyone, discussion and debate are a way of learning stuff and arriving at truth, they are not willy waving contests.

True. It just felt from your first post that you were out to make a thread purely for taking the mick. Got your PM, so no worries. I wonder if they have all night Star Wars screenings at the pretend uni I end up at. :D
