I had a similarly pleasant thing happen recently.

Got back after a particularly knackering day at work to find the front bumper of my car hanging off. Great. Payday's a week off - just what I need. Two notes on the windscreen. One saying 'Sorry I hit your car. Ring me on ... We'll sort it out.' I rang her. She was good to her word, even going so far as going to the garage to pay the bill so I didn't have to stump up any cash up front. Second note said 'I saw your car get hit and have the Reg No. Any hassles call me on ...'

Nice to be reminded that there's decent people out there who'll do the right thing. What could have been a pain in the arse turned out to be quite heartening in the end.
