I get the impression that coffee's more popular than tea

To me it's like the difference between bread and cake.

Tea is like bread = a staple item that you love and couldn't imagine living without, and is wholesome and good.

Coffee is like cake = a bit frivolous, something to treat yourself to rather than for every day consumption.
I see it like this: coffee is Life Itself. Tea is a drink you'd have with fish and chips.

there aren't lots of threads about tea in the same way as there aren't lots of threads about drinking water, everyone i know just drinks it constantly as a matter of course. coffee is a newcomer novelty, though, so people discuss it more... it\s a bit more exotic.

i agree with this too

No, I think tea retains and always will retain it's popularity. I grew up drinking tea in Australia and always have tea in the house, but I don't have coffee. I mainly drink coffee when out with friends as I find it too strong and thicka drink to have too much of, unlike tea which I can drink til the cows come home. :)

In an ideal world, where everything is the best that it can be, coffee is better. But mediocre tea is worlds better than mediocre coffee, so I need both.
