I use a clutch pencil.
A choice of leads and a fine point sharpener in the end.
I would never use a nasty propelling pencil.
You can't mess with a Fixpencil.![]()

Caran D'Ache Fixpencil 77; full alu body, combined with the Staedtler 502 tub lead pointer. Propelling pencil? I shit on your propelling pencil.
For a second I thought they were coloured leads. Now that would be cool.Your name is Dave and I claim my £5! http://davesmechanicalpencils.blogspot.com/
I must admit I am in love with my purple Pentel Twist-Erase Click, cheap though it may be (mainly because nowhere seems to stock the Q1005 anymore).
And I love my Pentel Ain Stein leads purely based on the packaging.

There are coloured leads - I have some. They are not very intense, though. For a second I thought they were coloured leads. Now that would be cool.

I have a couple of these too, cedar wood methinks ?I have a really nice smelly wooden mechanical pencil from Muji, which was only a couple of quid. Muji being an excellent stationery-stroking shop.
Yes.Can someone explain in what respect these pencils are automatic?
Mechanical is better term than automatic.... AFAIK you still have to press the end to get new lead showing.
I assume you've been here:

Yes.
Thanks for asking!

Certainly! The reasoning is that I can explain in what respect these pencils are automatic. My pleasure. Can you return the favour by explaining the reasoning behind your smug reply?![]()
No. To assume makes an ass out of u and me. fwiw I agree, mechanical is better![]()
Not if you use them sensibly, they don't.
0.3mm H leads all the way. Oh yes.
I'm quite a hard presser and I find the leads are ALWAYS breaking when I use an automatic.Have you thought of getting a clutch pencil in a B?I probably don't use them sensibly thenI'm quite a hard presser and I find the leads are ALWAYS breaking when I use an automatic.
What I do like is a good 2B pencil; you get a nice dark line with that one. Only trouble is that you have to keep sharpening the things - they don't keep their points the way a 2H or even HB does.
Have you thought of getting a clutch pencil in a B?

I wouldn't want a big one - it would get in the way when I'm cycling.I think that's the first time I've ever seen a man brag about how small his pocket pencil is.![]()

It's their proper name. the OP is amrican or something. Maybe from Mars.We used to call them 'propelling pencils' when I was a kid.
