I don't like salt.

My mother puts huge amounts of salt on everything I cook, without even tasting it first.

Salt does have its place in cooking - pasta and rice water needs to be salted, for example, and Thai cooking relies on the balance of salty/sweet/sour and hot flavours.

I don't like salt on any foods either, it ruins the taste of anything imo. and would never use it in cooking.
The only thing I keep a tub of sea salt for is to make a mouthwash for after tooth extractions (sadly a few of late) as it's the best and cheapest thing to use.

In moderation, I find it definitely enhances the flavour of food. A properly seasoned steak tastes far nicer than one fried off plain.

I like salt - goes into most things I cook.

But like crustychick said up there ^^ a lot of preprepared foods have enough salt in already.

Most preprepared foods have more than enough salt in them!

It is very difficult to not get enough salt. Even if you eat a 'natural' diet (no readymeals) you get plenty of sodium (which is what your body needs, rather than salt). If you eat pre-made stuff, eat bread or biscuits then the chances are you are eating more than the rda. The vast majority of the salt we consume is 'hidden' in stuff, rather than what you put on your chips :)

I fucking love salt, but never add it when I cook because I know I'll pile on the hot pepper sauce at the eating stage and I'm well aware that I'm slowly killing myself with the volume I salt I consume.

Salt is bloody lovely.

hardly ever use it when cooking unless is really necessary but I fucking LOVE salt

esp on potatoes, eggs and tomatoes :o

but other than that never add it to food after its cooked

That's ok then, making your own bread is commendable. :) And you'll be using a hell of a lot less salt than buying a loaf... I've just read that Hovis's white, extra thick has 1g of salt PER SLICE!

I rarely add salt to food when cooking, a habit from having kids but i do add it to my own food afterwards, i like salt and lots of pepper :)

since there is so much salt in processed food, there is no need to add any, anyway, unless you shun these products completely and avoid caffs or restaurants.

I avoid cafes and restaurants(means interacting with people) and I generally eat processed food to get an occasional burst of salt and as that's approx twice a week I suspect I don't get enough.

<pet hate> Yup, the amount of salt, hard fats & a few outher gut-churning things in industrial CBP bread can be truly staggering. Worse still, most of the bread sold in the UK is now produced by that method. </pet hate>

An equivlent craft baker/home made loaf will only need a fraction of the amount of salt & none of the "production aids". For my loaves, typically 1-2g per loaf, sometimes less.

I only go out with girls who reeeeaaally like salt

So all those haters, may as well forget it or stop hatin

Yeah but try finding a girl who's honest about the salt at the beginning. Most times it takes a couple months till she reveals the truth. "It's not you"

It's the salt isn't it?

(she looks away)

Why couldn't you just tell me at the start?
