Back on topic, have you tried removing the USB-PS2 adapter and trying the mouse in a USB (Flat-rectangular port) on your laptop (plug in with laptop off, then switch on).
Also you should know that you really shouldn't hot-plug PS2 devices (ie. plug/unplug them when the laptop is switched on) as you may damage the motherboard/PS2 port. I've done it myself by accident/lack of patience and haven't had a problem *yet*, but it could be what's causing your problems.
Try your mouse in a USB port or borrow another USB mouse and try that.
I unplugged it so I could try another mouse (a PS2 corded one), but that one started bouncing all over the place as well
Last night was probably first time I've taken mouse out so it's not like I've been fiddling around with it
) I took the rubber bit off mine when I used it as it annoyed me.


The little joystick thing in between the G, H & B keys on the keyboard.
