The only thing I found business cards to be good for (when I used to have them through work) was putting in those boxes in bars/restaurants to be entered into a draw. I never won anything though.

I won a camera doing that. It was actually a decent camera, too. I still use it.

I did have a minor panic that it might be claimed by my work, who have a crappy camera, but I phoned up the people and asked them to send it to my home address and they did :D

For the first time in my six years of having a job, I have a business card. Mwahahaha!

Now… what do I do with it? I’m scared!

I don't know. I have thousands that are all over the place. I never give them out (mostly because I forget to take them with me) and then my company just prints more up.

Sometimes I hide as many as I can around someones house (back of the sofa, coffee pots etc).

There's a lovely Miles Kingston about business cards - he talks about sitting on a train chatting with someone, and eventually they hand over business cards. Of course, Miles doesn't hand over a real card, he hands over one of the ones belonging to someone else he's had sitting in his wallet. The chap looks at him with a funny expression, pulls out an absolutely mint copy of the same card from his wallet, and says "Snap."

Miles then wonders how many people had passed that card on...

I have business cards. Their primary use appears to be sitting in my desk for an age and then staying in my wallet when when I go to meetings with external types.

And then making my mates laugh and using them as proof when I tell them what I do for a job, usually at some sort of crack-on situation :D

I like my business cards. They make me feel important. :D

God only knows why work decided I needed so many of them, though. I can't get rid of the bloody things! :D

I have business cards. Well, they're not _business_ cards as such, they've just got my name and phone number and email and Skype address on them, and a pretty picture.

I got them from www.moo.com and they're great. Almost never use them though. Gave one to an estate agent today.

Alternative Uses for Business Cards 1: You have seen loyalty cards for "buy 10 get one free" offers; why not print one of your own? Print a frequent buyer card or other promotional offer on a card.
The whole card can be a coupon for a free consultation, a discount, or a free gift with purchase. Remember include an expiration date on them! Then hand them out to all your customers.

Alternative Uses for Business Cards 2: Print a short survey on a Business card.
Offer an incentive for people to return the card to you with the survey answered--they can get a free gift or a discount just for answering a few simple questions. Then give them a new card with your contact information on it.

Alternative Uses for Business Cards 3: Other things you might print on this size cardstock include:
Hangtags
Nametags
Tickets to an event; or
Tiny greeting cards you might attach to a gift basket or other gift.
It's always nice to handwrite a personal note when using them as greeting cards. A quick "thank you" or "best wishes" goes a long way. Or, announce a special event and enclose the cards with all your outgoing correspondence.

Alternative Uses for Business Cards 4: Make your business card a referral card for your organization or club.
That will make it easy to invite a prospect to your next meeting or to introduce the organization to them. On the front, print a form to fill in the date, time and location. On the back, include a brief overview of the club. Let members hand them out to potential recruits.

Turn them into appointment cards
On one side, you can print your name, address, phone, fax and email plus your business name and logo. On the other side, leave room to fill in the date and time of your customer's next appointment. They will keep it in their wallet or planner and always have your information at their fingertips. You could also print a map of your location on the back or directions on how to reach your store or office.
