I believe ENGLAND can win the World Cup!

I watched that game, it was horrible to watch. NI did play us off the park. England can be great, have the players, in my honest opinion has the manager (both present and future) but lacks the togetherness of any side in the world. I would happily make the EPL 32 games a season and let the manager have the team for a month.
Spain have exactly the same problem.

A message to everyone that thinks England will definitely win the World Cup this year ....

Did any of you la la land motherfuckers actually watch essentially, the same England team play against France and Portugal at Euro 2004? Fucking did you? What about against Brazil in the last World Cup? And Argentina in the one before that?

And before you delusional fuckwits start your girly whining about "how unlucky they were" ...can I respectfully ask that YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU MORON.

England are proven lightweights when it comes to the single most important ingredient when trying to win at any sport at the highest level. Nerve.

Germany have it in abundance. So too Brazil. And Italy.

England are very low on these qualities. Yes, they probably have the best team they've had in 40 years (if Rooney is in the team that is). But I fear they will bottle it ...like always.

I hope I'm wrong this time.

supporting anyone but england, winning it would be fuckin unbearable, dont think id be able to turn the t.v on again.

Replace Hargreaves and Jenas with Scott Parker and LEdley King and I agree with you.

Yeh sure they may have a good team but the English are notorious for fucking up on the big occassion.

They arent, actually. In the last 2 tournaments England lost to the eventual winners/finalists. No shame in losing to a better team. England have consistenly finished as far as their talent at the time would take them - but they arent bottlers.

Most people in the world think england are pretty damn good. Most people know our players and they are regarded as some of the best. Most teams would be very worried about playing England and wouldnt fancy themselves. We just dont like ourselves very much.

Too many people go to one extreme or the other.

First, I'm not sure that anyone on this thread has asserted that England will definitely win the World Cup. All that has been said is that we have a chance to do so.

You're right to point out that England have failed in recent tournaments when confronted with the big guns. However, of the four examples you give, I think it's worth pointing out that England battered France for eighty minutes before conceding two late goals, England would probably have beaten Portugal had it not been for Rooney's injury (admittedly, Sven's absence of a plan B didn't help) and we would also probably have beaten Argentina had Beckham not got himself sent off in France 1998. I'll give you the Brazil game, but that was a product of the heat as much as the amazing ball-retention skills of the Brazilians and Sven's lack of plan B.

Germany and Brazil do have the "nerve" that you identify as being a critical ingredient of any successful team. But the Italians? They haven't won a tournament since 1982 and have regularly fallen short in matches that they should have won comfortably.

I think this is the best-balanced England team of the last 40 years and has the best chance of winning a tournament in that time. However, I still expect us to go out to Brazil in the semi-finals.

I believe that England will win.

Watching England win 6-0 yesterday..... I admit that the opposition wasn't strong, but did you see how the goals were created?

Owen played like a Brazillian, setting up Lampard for the first goal. He also beat the keeper for his own goal later on. A true striker!

Crouch is on form, Beckham is on form, Lampard is on form, Gerrard is on form......... etc...

Ronaldinio ain't playing too well at the moment, is he?

All you're doing here is making excuses for those occassions where England should have won. I cannot recall too many games that Italy (or France for that matter) have lost where they have played the better football ..or had the majority of the possession.

That is the crucial difference. These teams love playing England (although they say the opposite in public) because they know that they are soft when the pressure is on. They also know that if it goes to penalties, they have a great chance of winning. Penalties is the greatest examination of a teams nerve in my opinion. Look at Holland. They are worse than England. Luckily for them, they play better football generally.

Most other major footballing nations are not worried about playing England in my opinion. Or at least haven't been over the past 30 odd years.

I actively hope you England lose because of their typical arrogance.

This is a myth, and only fools believe in it. The "English way" is false modesty, not arrogance. It's understanable to believe that we're all knobs, as the media only take the one view from a certain section, but if you follow that you're just as stupid as they are, as you're taking the blinkered "we have great players come on Eng-er-land" as verbatim, whereas most of my mates are thinking semi's at best, with a little luck.

It's ironic that most of the Celts/anti-England that have a go at England and their fans are just as stupid as the England fans that read the tabloids and get the bowler hats on, you believe that we're all arrogant idiots because of some cunts on the telly; all the Irish and Scots that have actually moved here and work here know that most of us are rather quiet and hold false modesty as our chief weapon.

You're the only country that has already booked a victory parade apparently. If that's not arrogance I don't know what is.

I watched the Brazil-NZ game and I must say NZ gave Brazil quite a good game, it was much closer than the England game IMO.

Of course, that might be aprtly due to much better organisation for the Kiwis compared to the Jamaicans.

1. Proove that.

2. Who cares? The England and Wales (see that? England and Wales) cricket board booked Trafalgar Square and various streets off in anticipation of an Ashes victory, how stupid would it have looked in they'd not booked them off and we'd have won? Sorry, we can't have a parade because the governing body didn't have the foresight to clear the streets for the day. It's ironic, you're so blinded by your green, red and white glasses that you cannot see the wood for the trees.

Don't rise to the bait of the taffies. It's just the same old pathetic repetitive lie constructed by the other 'home' nations just to try and keep the myth alive by saying that we, the English, think that we're better than everyone else.

We're not arrogant, it's the home nations that are bitter and who are keeping this perpetual myth going.

here ya go
The FA's right royal presumption
In an astonishing instance of tempting fate the Football Association are making contingency plans for a victory parade culminating with tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

It is reported that the Queen will make space in her diary for a reception if Beckham and his team return victorious from Germany.
