I am the worst sewer in the world. Actual help urgently needed in the next few days

It's not the actual sewing so much that's the problem, it's the thread constantly getting tangled and knotted  -- I attempted the task three or four times on Saturday, each time with the same disastrous result.
And it's more than a couple of inches, more like 3 or 4 feet.

William, I think someone's already said, your thread's too long. Use shorter lengths and it won't get tangled. It's easy, honest!

Try sailmakers as well - The last time I had a tent zip replaced, they were the only place willing to do it.

Not sure how many sailmakers there are in Walworth :D

I've never had a tent sewed but when I take my dry-cleaning over to the dry cleaners they do all my odd bits of sewing like buttons, etc at no charge.

It's not like that in South Ken -- I'll try the Walworth Road tomorrow morning, at least they open early.

Failing that .,... :(

Why don't you take up Indigo4's kind offer?

Is there anyone out in (London) Urbanland who can do this job for me who can get to SE17 or nearby reasonably easily? By the end of Wednesday?
You'd have more luck if you offered to take the tent to the sewing person, rather than expecting them come to you, seeing as they're doing you a favour.

Indigo wanted to lend me her small tent, which was extremely kind of her and very tempting, but I guess I'm annoyed that (relatively) little stands between the current tent being fine, and not being ...

It has five or at most six more festivals to survive, before it gets replaced for next season.

Thinking through ALL options just now ... will travel with tent though, that was a fair point. Which I should have made at the beginning.

I do sympathise with your sewing problems. The instructions on this thread made my eyes cross over - yet I'm sure they were excellent instructions.

I also cannot help with sewing because my left wrist is partially disabled. However, I have a spare two-person tent of a reasonable size, and you're most welcome to it for all the festivals you're going to. No hurry to get it back, either.

BTW, I'm in Bethnal Green, not that far from the tube, if that makes it easier for you to borrow the tent.

Cheers for this Sam, but Wonderful Walworth, SE17, may have saved my life now.

Thanks to the very friendly and entirely excellent Castle Cleaning, 175 Walworth Road (for all your laundrette, dry cleaning, sewing repairs and tent fixing needs, between Baldwins and the Housing Cash Office :p ), it's now near certain that my tent zip will be sewn up by tomorrow. I left it with them this morning.

I await confirmation after the actual sewing man arrives at 2 pm (they'll phone me here) but the girl who took the order this morning was very accomodating and pretty positive.

So up yours South Kensington, and big up the SE17 spirit of helpful service! :)
