I am considerably more left wing than you.

So, are you to the left or the right of Frank Field?

I know very little about him except his views on welfare and I'm marginally to the left on that. I wish I were as knowledgeable as he is.

I took a look at his website. He makes interesting points on devolution but I don't agree with the way he makes England look like a victim. I don't know if that makes me leftier or rightier than him on this. He comes across and an English Tam Dalyell - what does that make him?

Frank Field makes interesting and well argued points and isn't afraid to speak his mind. I don't know if he fits into left or right in the Labour Party but we're lucky to have him.

Frank Field was IIRC running hate campaigns against benefit claimaints in the early to mid 90s; has he changed much since then?

Also his constituency party tried to get rid of him though they have probabbly left whats left of the nu labour party.the man is a religous zealot and a bloody tory to boot why he as been in the labour party so long escapes me

I think you missed the point... what is the point of having electable views or of being in a majority? Even politicians don't have electable views, they just say things that will get them elected.

If you are in politics then having electable views, or an electable manifesto is everything. You can change little in opposition.

I don't choose my opinions in order to be popular or "electable" but it sounds from this post that you do, which is rather bizzare and incredibly shallow.

You are reading things into my post that simply are not there so that you can find an excuse to call me bizzare and shallow. Well done you!

It's the same on sites where there are many right-wing people. Anyone there who tries to say something socialist/left-wing there will result in everyone else ganging on them and shouting them down. It does happen here too, but the truth is neither are right, there are no right or wrongs in politics and you're a fool if you think there are. I think having a site solely of lefties/righties is boring, they'll agree on most things and only argue minor details so lets be having you...

I'm slowly coming round to a similar point of view. Both Right and Left if left to their own devices would equally be a fucking disaster. Both POV's are correct in some areas and not others.

Maybe the best form of politics for the future will be 'what works and isn't immoral'

I certainly think that revolutionary socialism is dead sadly the same cannot be said for facsism.

All hail the Third Way!

Politics isn't about 'right' and 'left', it's about right and wrong!

Thanks for sharing with us your masterful understanding of the flaws of both right and left-wing ideology, you totally didn't make yourself look like an idiot in doing so.

Didnt say Private eye was right wing did i....But its hardly left wing either is it? Much prefered scallywag, which wasnt so timid in exposing things....

Well it must be more left than right otherwise i wouldn't have a subscription

I'm sorry if you don't agree with me but this isn' tabout the failed Nu Lab third way as you try to make it out to be it is about right and wrong.

Tell me, just how many councillors have the extreme left got at the moment? If progressives in the UK fail to engage with people then the only winners will be the fash.

Don't be part of the problem be part of the solution.

Private Eye may have it's upper middle class luvvie side to it but has a proven track ecord in exposing the dodgy privatisation and cash bung scams run by Labour over the past 12 years.

Just wondered how much of this managed to get in the MSM

I don't believe there is a such thing as a right or wrong thing. It's not a wanky 6th form philosophical thing I just don't believe there is a such thing as either. :)

Now believing in something is wrong or right is a different matter altogether of course.

For someone who appears to be critical of "wanky 6th form" philosophising, you're obviously more than willing to engage in it yourself. :)

You've failed to see that the difference between left and right isn't about a linear debate over how to practically solve issues in contemporary society, it's to do with two fundamental and irreconcilable views on human nature. From then on, your practical solutions to issues are but logical extensions of your founding philosophical base.

Therefore, lefties who are actually leftwing will always be definably leftwing.

never mind being left wing, have a gander at some of the occupations on the 'what do you do for a living?' thread, some must be on 100, 0000 a year easy

And what is the point in being dead left wing? Other than male competitiveness?

Ermmm... I suppose the reasons for being really left wing would be... compassion for fellow humans/non-human animals? scientific and economic rationality? attempted self-protection against threats like climate change and unemployment? tolerance and understanding of those who differ from us without harming us or others?

(whose views, while close to your own, are still a bit dodgy and need careful watching)

"Why keep an eye on Stalin, eh? The soviets are just like a Russian labour party. I mean, they're pretty close to us on most economic policies, so they can't be that bad."

Late to the thread, but I would say that "considerably more left wing than you" definitely exists. It is a waste of time, usually quite juvenile and alienating.

But it aint half as bad as the phoney element left who continue to support, vote or campaign for a party that is authoritarian, neoliberal and corrupt.

The Morning Star is in permanent denial about this menace. Constantly referring to its favoured Labour MPs as "left MPs" and always referring to an entity which DOES NOT EXIST called "New Labour".

Day after day it refuses to accpet that the likes of Corbyn and Mcdonnell are members of a disgusting reactionary outfit. This is a far bigger problem than some Swappie numptie getting all uppity about their class fetish.

I am the only left-winger in the village! It's so lonely being in a village full of conservatives and imperialist aggressors - you don't know how I feel.

Infantile.

I am no particular fan of either Mcdonell or Corbyn. But they do at least have some integrity for standing up for what they believe in. There always have been and always will be wide differences of opinion in the Labour party.

Politics ulitametly is important because of the actions people take. A huge problem with people on the far left is they seem to forget its about practical action not just academic sniping.....

The truth is a lot of orthodox lefties are about as much use as chocolate teapots.....

I'm not really fussed whether someone's on 10 grand or 100 grand, it's their attitudes and opinions that count.

Cant agree. I think it does matter what people earn and how they earn it.
And also think it matters how they spend it too.
