I've read that the gases escaping from the dead bodies enclosed in small spaces, can overcome the rescuers. Some have had to be treated in hyperbaric chambers.

Absolutely.Barking_Mad said:Don't be ignorant, for once. It wasn't the media who were plucking numbers out of the air. They were merely quoting what they were being told and going by the fact 10,000 body bags had been ordered.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed how the USG always seem to either massively over-estimate death/casualty counts or simply not have figures for them at all? Whereas the rest of the world seems to start off with lower numbers and then get higher?

shurely "misunderestimated"?spring-peeper said:iirc, the USG underestimated the death count in Iraq![]()
As PM just commented, mis-underestimated, and anyway I was just including that to make the point they have absolutely no idea what the count is.spring-peeper said:iirc, the USG underestimated the death count in Iraq![]()

newharper said:"Another episode in the rapidly evolving Abramoff scandal involves David Safavian, one of the Bush administration's top federal procurement officials. He resigned shortly before being arrested last week for allegedly lying to officials and obstructing a Justice Department investigation in connection with his relationship with Abramoff. ..
Before Safavian resigned, he reportedly was working on contracting policies for Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. Don't expect the GOP Congress to look askance at this. Safavian's wife is chief counsel for oversight and investigations on the House Government Reform Committee, which oversees procurement matters, although she's said she'll recuse herself. "
Just a bit of the corruption charges welling up against this administration.
