untethered: it's a big screen but 1350mAH is a pretty big battery. And, of course, it'll be swappable.

True. My dSLR battery is 1500mAH and happily runs for several hundred shots. Puts things in perspective.

This is one to keep an eye on.

Taiwanese company that used to do mainly outsourcing but have now pushed into the high end device market with their own branded products. And they look good, some real contenders.

Windows Mobile 'a treat' ?
The phone sure looks a treat to me, and although it's running Microsoft's beastly WM6.1, if you spend enough time tweaking the thing and installing decent third party programs, you can get a fairly usable handset.

HTC's redesigned front end is pretty slick too, and although I doubt it'll ever match the grace of the iPhone for all-over sleekness, it looks to be thoroughly outperforming the phone in several key areas like screen size, camera, video, removable battery, microSD slot and, of course, you won't be lumbered with Apple's highly restrictive practices.

And, of course, that massive screen resolution batters all of the WM/Symbian/Palm competition for six, and if you can live without a proper keyboard and don't mind putting up with WM's annoying quirks, you could have a very, very tasty phone in your hands.

It's out at Christmas.

That looks nice...
But I have an HTC tytnII at the moment and its operating system is absolutely shite. Obviously that's because it's Windows, but the whole device is a sluggish pain the arse to use, despite being pretty highly specced (400MHz processor, but no bus, and no proper driver for the video, FFS, lol), and it's made me very wary of their products in general. If you could run a different OS I'd be well into it.

no it's because tytn was overly underpowered and a POS good when it launched by fast became outdated the TYTN (or hermes and hermesII as they are known in HTC world) are both poorly set up pda phones... the universal was good but huge as ras... the 6500 is supurb but you need your own uhaul to carry it round...

It does look sweet, no, and I fancy the crisp, clean *look* of the interface makes the iPhone's look a little dated now. (Note I said 'look' - I doubt if this thing will match the iPhone's user friendliness).

Early review says that the 800 x 480 display is absolutely fantastic, the camera a good 'un, TouchFLO 3D runs smoothly and it's launching in the fourth quarter without global HSDPA.

Me like.

Another fake iPhone... but this one has Windows installed!

:D:D:D

You couldn't make it up!

It looks better than the iPhone (IMO), has a completely different interface and a much better screen, it has a different button layout and a much better camera (and video, MMS, cut and paste, more apps and none of this 'approved by Jobs or be borked' bullshit of course) and if it's copying anything, it's the Prada phone - which as any fule knows, came out before the iPhone.

Sadly, it's still running Microsoft's beastly WM6.1, although HTC's TouchFLO interface does a pretty good job of covering over its many inadequacies.

I don't think it makes the iPhone interface look that dated, it's all boring John Major grey...and besides an icon update is piss easy so I doubt Apple will be shitting bricks over this.

I'm giving up on these damn smartphones. My TyTn II keyboard is just about broken now. I can't text and walk, and I need to use more brain power to operate the device than should be necessary. The internet & GPS is nice, but fuck it, I'm switching to something else as soon as I get the chance.

Unless of course you live in a part of the country where you can't get O2 signal, like me, or you just don't want to switch networks.

I've got to say I'd been underwhelmed by new smart phone until the iphone came out, and its piped my interest in them again, so I'll be intrested to see what android brings.

Not looking to replace my camera with a phone but drunken night debuached photos are exactly what a camera phone is for an no flash means no good.

If it needs an interface over the top of WM to help make it usable, why bother with WM in the first place, and not just have it's own interface...?

Well maybe a high end smartphone stuffed full of your data isn't the best thing to take out on a wild drunken night :)
