HTC Leo (Touch HD 2)

I have a Sony Ericsson C705 (that o2 disabled GPS from Google Maps, the whole reason I got it!) at the moment, and it's on its last legs and keeps falling asleep, trust me, it isn't gonna take much for a phone to impress me! Have to wait til January (and what ever happens I HAVE to upgrade otherwise o2 will charge me £15 extra every month!!! Which would make my shitty phone more expensive than an iPhone!)

shame you neva said before, that has to be a software disablement.... cant see they opened it up and removed the chip. someone somewhere wouldve been able to re-enable it

really? how come? whens your contract expire??? got to be a way out of those shit conditions. ive never upgraded in my life, get a new fone/new contract/port my number

like changing car insurance companies each you.. or banks... you always get a better deal for "new customers only"

Yea it was a software thing that o2 did (presumably to stop people using too much data!). I got my phone debranded by DaVinci, which got rid of all the o2 crap (and allowed GPS to work on Google maps) but it fucked the phone up (kept freezing and turning off) so had to send it back to SE to repair it, which they did, along with reinstalling all the o2 crap! Just left it as that

Last time I upgraded they gave me a £15 "loyal customer" discount so for 500 mins, 500 texts and unlimited data transfer I only pay £22.50 a month (which is pretty good) but the discount expires when my contract does, originally I'm on a £30/month contract and the data bundle costs £7.50 meaning I can upgrade to a new phone/contract (hopefully renegotiating the loyalty discount) or I can pay more than people who've got an iPhone pay!

Thought this was an interesting comparison re size. Of course, not everyone wants to carry a huge phone around with them, but its good to have options.

so do you pay for the phone when upgrading?......

ever time i change phone im going for something hot out of the box so to speak... i had the touchHd within its first weeks of uk release..... i couldnt do an upgrade this time as orange didnt even carry the hd at the time (allegedly an O2?i think? exclusive.. yeah that lasted all of 5 minutes) but every time beofre i wanted to change phones the network i was with wanted to charge the upgrade fee

just for comparison, i had the touchHD last November for free on contract that is £30 for 300 xnet mins and unlimited text plus £5 per month unlimited data pack

No they don't have an upgrade fee (to my knowledge anyway - didn't get charged owt for my last upgrade). It's just that I have a loyalty discount of £15 off what the line rental should be which I thought would just carry on after the 18 months but apparently it doesn't!!

Altho if I upgrade to this phone (HD2) considering all the hype it's gettin I doubt I'd be able to get any better than what new customers get (which I'm predicting will be something similar to the Palm Pre deals).

Sayin that, you can get it on T-Mobile for £130 and £35 line rental (with 300 mins, 200 texts, and their "unlimited" internet) and that's for a 12 month contract! So perhaps there's a bargaining chip there if I wanna stick with o2?!

I bet you can get free with some hard bargaining, especailly if you've been a customer for a few years. Its easier to keep existing customers then it is to find new ones. Orange wanted far to much cash for my Touch HD, but in the end I got it for nowt.

i had always found it to be the other way... the telcos fell over backwards to get you signed up with them but then didnt seem to give a shit about keeping you

but! it does no indeed seems to be that the days of a good "new customers only" deal are gone..... i cant even find a TouchHD for free on the contract or similar that i have... odd as i got it for free as i said, 11 months ago

:(

I find it really depends who you speak to, you need to get through to retentions and even then find the right person. Start by asking for the PAC code straight away and have some dodgy website deals to compare to. If they're not playing ball, then try another day and speak to someone else. If it still fails, ask for the PAC code and cancel contract and wait for the next phone call.
