HSBC - the cockroach of the banking world?

front page headline of today's evening sub-standard

"bonfire of the london bankers"

sadly, just talking about the redundancies

which, as others have said, will probably be the lower paid staff - the execs will no doubt give themselves a pay rise for implementing these 'efficiency savings'

not to mention the cull of branches - I wish these *****s would realise not everyone wants to bank on-line and if you use the phone methods there are times when you need to speak to a real person, not some shonky "AI" that can't understand your accent mor the non-pigeon hole fitting query.

They realise, they just don't care

They're going to change the name; hopefully I'll be banking with the Midland bank again, and they'll bring back the crap camp griffin :thumbs :

They'll close a lot of the branches before changing it, that's the plan.

Nah, for me it'll be like Blackwater changing their name to Academi, still a bunch of complete cunts and lots of people still refer to them by the former. Maybe they should choose a Phoenix, heh.

I reckon they'll close a bunch of branches that are in close proximity to one another first. In the mad consolidation phase a load of banks bought retail operations that left them with loads of branches on the same street. I know Lloyds and Santander had an issue with that, they had some branches less than 500 metres from one another. But given how much Barclays bought in their bonkers era, they must have the same issue.

And they also have loads of telephony and admin sites doing essentially the same job as everything they bought had it's own back office and they never got round to sorting it out.

The retail banking changes may make sense, BarCap is pretty self explanatory, wonder what they are doing in the African banking division.

they have been murmuring about fucking off since the crisis when threats of transaction taxes were murmured- like most banks in the UK, as soon as the climate gets too hot or impacts their bottom line, they have no qualms about moving out.

Well there's a thing.

HSBC whistleblower given five years’ jail over biggest leak in banking history

The whistleblower who exposed wrongdoing at HSBC’s Swiss private bank has been sentenced to five years in prison by a Swiss court.

Hervé Falciani, a former IT worker, was convicted in his absence for the biggest leak in banking history. He is currently living in France, where he sought refuge from Swiss justice, and did not attend the trial.

The leak of secret bank account details formed the basis of revelations – by the Guardian, the BBC, Le Monde and other media outlets – which showed that HSBC’s Swiss banking arm turned a blind eye to illegal activities of arms dealers and helped wealthy people evade taxes...
