How was your big chill?

really pleased you liked ledbury, ed....i was born and bred there and asides from the eastnor festies and the rolling malverns, most have never heard of the area which is sooo beautiful

This was the first ever festival where I've done no intoxicants at all due to being pregnant - no booze, fags, pills, nothing! So I was a bit concerned. However, much to my surprise, I ended up having a brilliant time, the best yet out of my three Big Chills! Rather nice to go to a festival and not feel like absolute shite for the entire next week.

good points:
sitting by the lake in the sun howling with laughter lots with all my brilliant mates and sisters
Trojan, Norman Jay, Carl Craig, Guilty Pleasures, A Certain Ratio, Fatback Band, the Ukelele Orchestra
lovely pies and the friendly pizza man who remembered me from last year!
proper earplugs and sleep mask. I am never going to a festival again without them

bad points:
staggering out of my tent at 5 in the morning for a piss only to be warned by a security guy that someone had just robbed a load of tents near us and I shouldn't go near the woods cos they might be in there and 'dangerous'!!
toilets, nuff said
no Nouvelle Vague on the Sunday, so it all tailed off a bit too soon
St Etienne - pk, you were so right what you told me on the other thread. what a load of cock. how has she got away with not being able to sing for that long??

Next year we'll be joining the camper van brigade I'm afraid...with a six-month-old baby in tow I reckon tents are going to be somewhat impractical!

(and baby will be wearing ear protectors and will not be taken anywhere near huge speakers)

Twas wicked! Sunny days, nice music, relaxing in the shade.

Unlike you lot, us in the family field had nice clean toilets and no tent theft. It has to be the most family freindly festie around. The car park next to the family field next to the chill stage. Brilliant. Getcha selves some kids and join the club! :D

Highlight had to be sunday night. Nittin sawne followed by a great dj type bloke on the chill stage who blew us away, pushchair and all.

I really don't know - I gave them a wide berth because I quite like one or two of their tracks, but she just murders them live, and after hearing them at Glasto and I think at Reading once I've never felt inclined to play any of their stuff again, she's usually a full semitone off-key, someone should buy her a Pitchmaster for her birthday... awful.

:o

I still quite fancy her though...

I had a great Big Chill. Thought it was a very enjoyable festival. We got there on Thursday and joined what turned out to be a large encampment of friends, friends of friends and other assorted randoms. One mate had set up a gazebo. I've always been a bit sniffy about gazebos and garden furniture at festivals, but I'm a convert. It was an excellent shelter from the rain on the first night, and it was nice to have a central gathering point.

Thursday: Just generally bopped around the place, had a good wander and a nice pie for dinner.

Friday: Caught a bit of Robert Fripp, who was a bit too chilled for my liking. Climbed the hill opposite the site and gazed at all the little people scurrying about for an hour or so. Saw Bobby and (not) Nihal, who played some tasty Asian stuff*, followed by One Self, who were well impressive. London Elektricity were good, but needed to be louder. By the time Patife came on I was a bit mashed, so it all sounded like the best music ever. Crawled into bed as the sun came up.

Saturday: Mostly spent sat in the sunshine drinking warm cans of smuggled in lager and listening to sweet reggae music. Decided to get DJ Dereck to play my wedding. Fat Freddy's Drop made lovely sounds in the evening. Caught the end of Hexstatic. Wish I'd seen the whole show. Early-ish night.

Sunday: Again, mostly sitting around in the sunshine drinking beer, listening to whatever was on the nearest stage at the time. Son of Dave rocked Fat Tuesday, as did the Dub Pistols at the end of the night. Shame Rodney P was so late though.

Didn't see or experience any tent theft or other dodgyness. Just lucky I suppose. But yeah, the toilets were fucking disgusting.

Failed to meet up with any urban people. I wandered past the Big Chill shop just after three on Saturday, but couldn't see any kitten hats or brown pointy umbrellas. Next year though, cos I'm definitely going back.

I left pretty early on Monday, but some people that stayed until they were pretty much kicked out (and driven to their car by security  ) found 4 full cases of beer, lots of wine and spirits, and three perfectly good tents. I find it amazing people leave stuff like that. Wish I'd stayed a bit later and kitted myself out for next year.

*Bobby and Nihal are also playing the London Mela this Sunday. It was wicked last year. Any urban people heading down there?

mostly my weekend was a good one , though it looks like other people had very diferent experiences ... AGKs' set on friday reminded me why I like the Big Chill , as did Tunng , Emiliana Torrini , The Necks , Jimmy Behan , Xploding Plastic , The Transit Kings .

Sets by Guilty Pleasures , and The Ukelele Orchestra Of Great Britain had me going into a rant about the amount of cheese at the chill , which I don't like very much .

by sunday night although I had had a great time , I had had enough and was ready to come home

but overall very very good :)

Just got my pics from a mates camera here's two (both taken during Transit Kings set):
