How to tell real fur from fake fur?

Never excepted some twat with a chip on his shoulder to come onto a polite and inoffensive thread to shit stir!

so, youre saying that photo is offensive? some people may feel being called a twat is offensive ( it doesnt bother me in the slightest by the way), double standards?
its obviously touched a few nerves here, which only proves my point.
what do you mean by "chip on his shoulder"? youre the one getting aggressive ;)

Right-and this is last post on this..preferred Stanie's more honest post and pic to the pointless pics of supermodels wearing fur :)

You can show both sides by posting links instead of gory pics. It was already quite clear that cyberfairy was going to try and get the thread binned, what were you hoping to achieve here?

the gory pic IS the flip side to a fur coat.
what was i hoping to acheive? i was trying to show people what the reality of a fur coat is, and its OBVIOUSLY worked because people are pissed off that THEY had to see that picture, and that it messes with their head.

it doesn't mess with my head, i've seen much worse stuff than that, i know millions of animals are murdered every day, we breed animals just to use, otherwise a lot of them would be extinct

i find how some people are treated offensive (probably to make your clothes and your computer etc) but animals are just animals

Yeah I guess you have a point. On a fur thread there will inevitably end up with the two points of view plus pics.

But, there are the people at work to consider as well, which is why it's usual to make gory pics into a link and indicate that it's NSFW in case people get into trouble.

and neither should any human. Its not like we need it. I find it offensive worn by anyone.

Oh, and have a read about how your rabbit fur is farmed.

no, i'm not really interested

every time someone posts about electronics or clothes do you post up pictures of impoveished south asians and chinese in their appaling working conditions? or are asians not fluffy enough for you to give a fuck about?

youve seen much WORSE stuff? so you are agreeing its a bad picture? doesnt that tell YOU something?

please dont take this wrong, but seriosuly, you should do some research before you come out with "extinction" type comments.
maybe youd like to expound on your extinction comment?

humans are animals.

No, I didn't think you would be. Head -> sand

I haven't posted pictures of anything. I do my best not to buy sweatshop produced goods, but sometimes its impossible to tell. You can tell what fur is tho.

ok, ill take that on board :)

ah, so youre really concerned about slave labour etc etc?

your arguments are very weak isitme, very weak.

it just shows to me, someone who is insecure in their ideas and tries to pass the "guilt".

And are some humans/animals less worth keeping alive than others?

Tis a bit of a peculiar question cesare.

If there was a choice of keeping my mother alive or a grizzly bear, I'd choose my mother. If it were a choice of keeping Peter Sutcliffe alive or a grizzly bear, I'd choose the grizzly.

I think everybody would be able to give similar examples, so there is no 'side' to take really.

Y'see I don't agree with you. I find the fur trade and the wearing of fur that keeps it going completely repugnant. THe carcasses of animals skinned for fur aren't eaten. We don't NEED to wear fur so we don't need to cause those animals unecessary suffering

What was that old advertisement? Something along the lines of it takes 50 dumb animals to make a fur coat but only one to wear it.

In some cases real fur is needed. All the people who live north of artic circle use animal fur because synthetic fur and man made fibres just don't keep out the cold or the wind like proper fur. That's why you never see a husky dog in a Berghaus Gor-tex jacket :D

I do think fur can look very good from an aesthetic point of view, like that leopard skin jacket I posted about, but I wouldn't kill an animal so I could look good.

What I don't like about it is the way the animals are intensively farmed in cramped little cages before being killed. The act of killing doesn't bother me as much as the intensive farming. That's why when I do eat meat (about once or twice a month) I try and make sure it is either off my uncle's farm or from a traceable freerange / organic source.

I love king prawns but after I found out that entire regions of coastline are devestated for them and people are murdered over prawn farms I try my best to avoid them - however they do sometimes get the better of me. :(

My point with regards to posting that picture is that everyone on here knows fine well where fur comes from and has seen the gore pictures before so it is a bit pointless. Like posting a picture of dead civilian in Iraq in bits to demonstrate that civilians are getting killed.

very basic article, not from PETA or any other 'biased' organisation. Tells you enough to understand its a sick and unnecessary trade

if you saw the documentary she made you'd realise that she's only anti-fur because she can't find a way of buying fur that she knows 100% is produced ethically (she has a point here IMO)

she went trapping with a trapper and caught a beaver that she would have been perfectly happy to wear. The animal is a rodent, it lives free, it needs to be culled / controlled and the suffereing it feels is less than that of the other rodents (mice and rats) that we happily poison here in the UK

also she visited an anti-fur campaign (RFA) who showed her a horrific video clip of an animal being skinned alive. I've seen the clip countless times as it's on virtually all the anti-fur websites. It is horrendous and no animal should be treated like that IMO. When the man at RFA showed her the clip he said "we see this kind of thing every week!" and "we have loads of material like this". I don't believe this for a second. if he really had a massive collection of similar clips why has exactly the same clip been shown year in year out on all the anti-fur sites? The fact is that the anti-fur sites have a small collection of video nasties that they display, that show the very worst practices of the fur trade. They show the same clips again and again. they would have us believe that there is no such thing as good practice.

the truth is that there is PR and misrepresentation of the truth happening on both sides

IMO

Ok, fairy nuff with the pic.

personally I find it makes me feel ill to touch fur, knowing how it came to end up as a coat/whatever. And yes, its the farming methods much more than the actual killing..

As for the people who live north of the arctic circle - I think you'll find that altho they wear fur the whole animal is used for food etc, they're not just killed for fur.

i dont think it is pointless (obviously). i didnt go vegetarian the first time i saw a gory pic, sometimes these images need to be seen regularly so you can no longer push them away :)

It was a question particular to Stanie in view of this. I probably wouldn't even have asked it if he hadn't started on the 'humans are animals' tack.

i still dont get why its bad to wear fur:confused:

not trying to troll or any thing, i just dont see why.

i think it is 100% completely morally acceptable to kill an animal for its skin to wear. we dont need to. but we can and do, and have for tens of thousands of years.

we don;t have to eat meat, but we do and have for even longer i guess.

i am not phased by pictures of skinned animals. thats normal and feels right. i am not upset by slaughter house practices. I;ve killed animals myself and cleaned and eaten them, i have even helped in the tanning of deer skin.

it is wrong to kill rare animals for there skins. as it is wrong to eat rare animals. there are plenty of farmable animals and lots of animals that can comfortaly survive a cull.

Can some one explain why it is wrong with out just showing me a bicture of a box of dogs and saying "look its dogs that are dead, dogs, yeah, like what you have as pets."

would you eat a human?

of course you wouldn't

so why is it ok to wear fur coats then?
