It makes perfect sense that if 'society' accepts that they are going to accept judicial killings then those killings should be caried out in the most humane way possible. The whole premise is that 'society' is 'better' than the person that deserves the death penalty. If they cause pain, society shouldn't. They found a method that was quick, painless (almost to the point of enjoyable!), and cheap.
It really make the arsehole at the end look like a right cunt, because he wanted executions to be painful and humiliating. One thing they didn't explore was the level of proof required to take another persons life in the sureity(sp?) that they had arrived at a safe conviction.
