How to Kill a Human Being

On BBC next tues at 9pm, after reading this article, I'm intrigued.

The Science of Killing

I'm no politico, so i'll leave any jokes about Portillo to someone else. The whole hypoxia death thing is amazing though. You're left in a giddy, child-like state....completely careless/oblivious to the fact that you are about to die.

He subjects himself to the effects of oxygen starvation at 29,000ft and despite being told he is seconds from death does not follow the orders that will save his life. He then goes to look at whether this could replace that current (rather barbaric) methods of execution around the world.

Interesting stuff...

Hmm, looks quite interesting. I think I could stand Portillo for long enough to watch the program when it's on.

This does look interesting. Especially considering Portillo's own views on the death penalty in the past.

*sets reminder to watch

The idea that you could die just sitting their gleefully is terrifying, not a supporter of the death penalty myself but I am fascinated by human physiology and the limits humans can push themselves.

I'm not sure if I'm finding this interesting or if its making me feel really uneasy

oh my god, this bloke who wants a painful death  :(
He looked a complete psycho. Did you notice his stance while talking to Portillo, like he was about to start a fight.

But I think that's a common attitude about capital punishment amongst US rightists, they're into revenge not justice.

The next one looked quite good as well, the isolation one.

The guy at the end was the stereotypical foaming-at-the-mouth pro-death penalty weirdo. I agree with Portillo's view that if the state is gonna be topping people it should at least maintain an aspect of humanity. That guy seemed like he is itching for someone to break into his house so he can blast him full of lead.

It's scary to think that someone could change the air in your room and you'd just pass out and die.

Does anyone know if this is likely to be repeated at all? We wanted to watch it but I had to go out and forgot. :(

Happens all too often with dodgy boilers/heaters producing CO2. Colourless & odourless so you don't notice until it's too late.

unless you've got one of them cards that'll warn ye. And are paranoid enuff to be checking it every 4 minutes minimum.

Excellent program. I will be very interested to see if the hypoxia method of killing of animals will be used in abbatoirs in the near future.

Good point. Actually Jamie Oliver gassed some chicks on his Fowl Dinners programme the other night so I guess they do on some occasions.

I find it strange that the regulations for killing laboratory animals in a humane painless way are far stricter than those for executing humans, farm animals and poultry. Perhaps the animal rights terrorists are attacking the wrong target.

How surprising the Tory goes for Hypoxia. Surprised he doesn't insist on ladies underwear bein gworn and an orange in the gob.
