How to handle a grim employee?

you admit that she has been allowed to get away with consistent lateness, taking days off without informing anyone, taking holidays at short notice... and apparently she has been accommodated without any reprimand.

does your company have rules regarding the above behaviour? are there disciplinary procedures of any kind? have those rules been breached and have the procedures been followed?

sorry, but it does sound to me like your company is at fault if they a) either don't have rules or b) don't follow rules

some employees will tend to take the piss if that is the case. not much you can about it. leave her be, learn from it and move on.

What an informed opinion

Everything you have said points to my opinion, informed or otherwise, being correct?

Does the copmpany have a policy on an employee not letting the company know what she is doing for 4 months? If so what is it?

I am totally with you on this Liberty and I don't blame you for the way you feel, so just be done with it and piss in her tea :p there doesn't seem to be any other way of getting her

This is the situation..

An employee who has always taken the piss broke her leg 4 months ago. She never called or communicated the time she wanted off. She blagged doctors sign off until last week. Then this week she did not call just told HO that she was taking the week off as she has 'a fallen arch' She is to be made redundant on the 24th of this month so is hanging on for that. When we offered to give her her redundancy early so she would not have to come back for these three weeks she said no.

Within this time she took a holiday to France and is trying to say she wants those days holiday back...

So come Monday after over 4 months how would you deal with this person?

Any ideas

She will be entitled to her leave.

But have a written warning waiting for her for her breachs of company rules (but only if you have given her a company code of conduct/induction).

Afraid you've let it go for so long an ET would probably laugh at you.

Then at least you'll get three weeks of no hassle out of her, as she'll be scared of losing her reduncancy

The point is she is coming back and I was just saying should I try to discuss it or ignore it
'Discuss it'? tell her exactly what you think. Why not?

Oh and tell her she's welcome to use you as a reference...
