'How to be a rock 'n roll critic- by Lester Bangs

I blame Alex Petridish... or whatever his name, mainyl cos he needs to be killed in the face

I don't think i've even picked up the NME in about 5 years, Q I glanced at once in WHSmiths in Euston but it had Dylan on the cover (shocker! who next Led Zep?!!!).

Even The Wire seems to have gone into a dip, although the last few have seen some improvement.

I haven't bought a copy of the NME for donkeys. I must have stopped buying it in the mid-80's. I do remember buying a copy in the 90's and feeling very disappointed at what I was reading.

It wouldn't be so bad if he were a one-off (well, he is, but only off the wrist, IYSWIM :) ), but his banal, self-referential "Alexis's diary" type of "journalism seems to infect everyone, even people who used to be halfway sound (only halfway, mind! :p ) like Miranda Sawyer.
I mean, when you're Paul Morley's age people expect you to interweave your own personal experiences of bands and genres into your journalism, but Petridish has been doing it since the music press got hard-up enough for journos to actually hire him.

And let us not forget the "style" section in Gruniad's Weekend magazine. Such a smug twat.

And yes he does think dance music is dead. But he's also used the term "nu rave" so that deserves double killing in the face.
