I got one of these for a change last time

and it's crap, streets missing and alleys etc not shown.

I keep losing or mislaying mine and having to buy new ones. I hate walking round London with a new A-Z – a scruffy beaten up one shows you’ve been round the block a few times (probably literally!).

Mind you in the streetmap/multimap era we are in, I tend to print off maps of where I’m heading if it is somewhere I don’t know.

Although I think I’ve been here long enough now to manage without an A-Z most of the time :)

Where's the "I don't know whether I still have one - if I do it's pristine because I lose them so often - so these days I usually print a page from www.streetmap.co.uk and they get very tatty very fast" option?

I have/had four but keep misplacing the buggers.

The only one I've been using recently has its cover missing but apart from that it's fully intact. The others are/were in tip-top shape pretty much... down to lack of use no doubt as hell knows where they are!

Not sure if it is just me but these things seem to fall apart in my hands. The first thing to go is a couple of pages will tear out of the middle, then the binding rings seem to start un-hooking at the top and bottom.

These buggers are £6 a go and should be designed to be carried about.

Rant, rant..........

The paper's REALLY shit. That's the problem.

You're right - at £6 a go, they should be a bit better quality.

Mine was 2/-6

My fathers old one ! - still works (sort of) - only once caught out in Ilford !

Meldrew would approve

My London A-Z is pretty mint, but probably no good anymore for commercial driving use as it's about 5 years old now.

My Norfolk Atlas is also doing pretty well considering it gets used nearly all day every weekday.

I look after my tools. ;)

i used to tear out the page for the place i was going to, and then forget to put it back in

still i could tell i'd been somewhere before, because the page was missing when i wanted to go there again

i have a waterproof one for when the thames floods

I'm rarely down there these days, but the A-Z got soggy in my bag last time I was in London so it's tatty anyway :D

This one, on the other hand, is completely knackered:

Mine was in a right mess so I brought a new one.. Then last week two centre pages came out.. I think they are supposed to look a mess

My many copies of the A-Z tend to disappear via guests visiting London...I have a massive de-luxe edition which is too cumbersome to leave the house though....

Mine is not too bad. I don't consult it all that much, as I also have a big fold-out A-Z map pinned to the wall which is much more useful for planning road journeys.

When I was a courier I would on average forget my a-z once every 2-3 weeks. This meant I probably had one of the largest collections of identical a-zs in London. Most of them have been given away now though and all that's left is a couple of particularly tatty ones.

I think that I need a new one soon....
Guess that could just look at maps on my phone or whatever but kinda need to have a (complete with no pages missing) A-Z at home :)

Old thread is old :)

Mine has the covers sellotaped on and pages are loose so it's secured with a rubber band. I like to snap off the band like Indy does to his notebook when he is working out where the Staff of Ra should go in the Well of Souls
