it's been pretty terrible recently. i was at highbury last night and not only did the team put on twenty minutes of the worst football i've seen from them in years, the fans put on the worst performance i've heard in years as well. a depressing evening all round.

what is the point of arsenal dominating large periods of games without turning it into goals? there is no chance in hell of winning when the defense is this bad. the state of the defense can only be wenger's fault. the squad's been paper thin for two years now and it was simply stupid to lose players through sales or retirement without replacing them. what we are seeing is a hangover from the 'old guard', the famous back four..... wenger pretty much achieved the smooth transition that was obviously required, but now that they're injured, and campbell has gone doolally since getting back from injury, it's fallen to bits because there is no cover. not acceptable at this level. flamini at right back and larsson at left back says it all.

there is no leadership. henry is a magician but he is not a leader. he was the wrong choice for captain but i guess AW didn't really have a choice. there was noone else. he whinges at players and hasn't been there for us in the last difficult month. but how can i criticise the best player to have ever played in the premiership?

the sale of vieira was inexplicable and is 75% of our problem at the moment. there's no backbone, no leadership. no crucnhing tackle that says 'we are not going to get bossed' and lifts the crowd. i don't understand it as from what i gather he didn't particularly want to go. we badly need some players who provide strength and leadership. more gritty englishmen (that were the backbone of our glory) would be nice.

oh well, all you feckers who are jumping on the 'arsenal are shit' bandwagon, just don't forget the best footballing side that this country has arguably ever seen. they were awesome. all teams have highs and lows and i remember the difficult times and the pain of defeat, it'll just take some getting used to getting back into that frame of mind. so don't generalise about fair weather supporters rehlani.

tottenham have bought lots of players and are doing well. well done. good luck trying to emulate what was a breathtaking era in arsenal's history.

Well said. I almost regret putting the poll up now. I always enjoy seeing the mighty fall I guess. The arse have no defenders and manure have no midfielders. Perhaps they should merge for the remainder of the season.

At least the Screaming Woman of Highbury has more to get excited about now. She was in full effect the other night :)

I'm curious... why did you add this into what was otherwise a very good post? Spurs have had breathtaking eras, we're not trying to emulate as just winning something would be great;)

Living in the past eh!? ;)

Arsenal fans are fair weather.

1) How many Arsenal fans come on the boards now - when you are decidedly average?

2) How many were on the boards when Arsenal were unbeaten?

Most of them have crawled back under the rock they came from. Therefore, fair weather fans.

Arsenal do have a contingent of hardcore fans - go to games etc - but I'd argue that 99% of Arsenal fans don't go to the game. From them 99% - I'd say 75% aren't that arsed about the team they say they support.

i'm still here, i just never bother with replying to the tottenham v arsenal type threads as it always centres on the same few people trotting out the same old arguments on both sides. i just find it very tiring.

similarly, i didn't get involved in all the 'we are so great, best team ever' type threads a few seasons back as i knew that it wouldn't last, and couldn't understand the arrogance of arsenal fans who thought that it would.

as for the OP, i wouldn't say that we are shit per se - there are at least 15 other teams in the premier league who would swap places with us, and would gladly have some/most of our players. we are definately shitter than we were last season though, and shitter than i thought we would be at the beginning of the season, when i thought we would finish 3rd or fourth.

not the wisest remark from a liverpool fan ;)

1) still quite a few but i'm not here enough to say exactly who the gooners are....

2) loads...

you're right that arsenal have captured the imaginations of people who don't like football that much and don't get too upset with bad results. but you can't generalise about fans, it's impossible to say except from personal experience, and how many's that?

we're probably more fickle than a Yeovil town supporter or even blackburn, but liverpool have some almighty 'don't give a shit'ters in their support. goes with being a big club i guess......

North London has never been a hot bed for football in the same way it has in the North - West and East.

That may be why you have a lot of erm - new football fans - who brag from the comfort of their armchair. The minute that Arsenal start to lose, they are strangely quiet about the whole thing.

I don’t,

I pity them. That level of arrogance with what they’ve actually achieved is baffling and (ultimately) beyond sad….Like you said it’ll take a miracle for them to achieve what The Arsenal have over the past ten years….I’m happy on memories alone.

Just popped in quickly to work….See you on Monday Chief’…. ;) :)

you've had a great ten years playing with flair and style which is something I admire and as a Spurs fan love to see (see the last posts on the spurs league position thread) although the cynical, whinging & cheating part of your game (although rampant throughout the premiership) is sadly a massive and prolific part of your teams game.

Before that ARSEnals style of play was as dull as the atmoshphere at Library and you had roughly as much success as us throughout your history (well since you relocated from Woolwich)

Congratulations on the last 10 years were you were so great that you still managed to struggle to occassionally beat some of the shittest Spurs teams I've known.

see you Monday ARSE-HAM-ELONA fan

Congratulations, in the last ten years you haven't even qualified for Europe via the league. What've you spent in that time?

Why so interested in what Spurs has spent? oh yes you're the lonely chavski fan aren't you?

i woulnt be shocked if this run od form is the end of henry ay arse the rend of pires at arse and the end of wenger at arse.

with the defensive problems they have i could honestly see them missing out on uefa cup let alone champions league places.
