How old were you when you stopped regularly going to gigs?

Well I think it is "normal" in the sense that a lot of people follow that pattern and that probably more people, as they get older, stop going to gigs than carry on.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. or how could you explain the massive cash-earning success of wrinkly tours by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Eagles and Dadrock McCartney. I strongly suspect that it's not the young ones rushing out to pack out stadiums all around the world.

Perhaps the type and regularity of gig-going changes as you get older, but there still seems to be a huge demand for special occasion/big name events amongst the older crew. Perhaps they won't be propping up a smoky bar in a smaller venue on Wednesday night mind, but it doesn't mean they've retired entirely.

I've noticed some peoples music tastes seem to stagnate when they get to their late 20's. I've met a few people the same age as me who seem stuck in the 80's or early 90's with the impression that nothings as good as it was when they were younger. But I think this happens, as has been said, mainly ro people who aren't (and have never been) actually that interested in music... more of a soundtrack for when they went out, and they are now stuck in the past for some nostalgia.
Other things play a part too... work, kids etc.

I stopped going to gigs for a few years when i started going to clubs and free parties, from about 19, but now i tend to go to a lot more gigs than clubs, cos there's a lot more bands I want to see and I like being able to go home and get a good nights sleep at the end of the night. :o
I still mix the both quite a lot though.

I'm 48, why the hell would I give up doing something I love ? The type of gig I go to has changed slightly [Lucinda Williams last Sunday was excellent!] & I am not tempted to go crowd surfing these days but will gladly stand propping the bar up whilst the kiddies have their fun up front. Oh & I try hard to avoid most 'Dad Rock' gigs by my old wrinkly heroes of the past, there's always something new & interesting.

Depends what you define as a 'gig' but my grandad was playing sax into his early 80's

Music ain't just for teenagers.
