How much to live in Goa?

He's 22 in a couple of weeks!

Things do get a bit tense with him and his Dad....
Once we were at his Dads house, the boy asked if annyone wanted a cuppa was about to pick up the kettle, when Dad shouted at him saying 'how do you know someone else wasnt using that!'. The Boy was said sorry... I had to walk away.... :(

Nope i wouldnt be bored I'd love it :) I've been before and really enjoyed it. I'd want to do a couple of days a week voluntery work at a school and we'd go on a few adventures and stuff...

I need to get out of London... I'm spending to much time in my pj's since my job fell thru... It's totally sapping all my motivation...

I think some space might do him and his Dad some good hehe ;):D

Can imagine you biting your tongue!

Working out there's a great idea, and it's a perfect time to go as Crispy says! :)

The kettle one was bad but the LAMPSHADE incident was horrendous!!

Holding my tongue is certainly not my forte!

Permission will be sought next week... fingers crossed!

Sounds like a fab idea and lots of adventures to be had. Should do it whilst you have no career commitments.

(quite tempted myself....)

Good luck.

As to the 'getting bored' thing, Goa's a good base to explore the rest of S India from. Me and Han had a brilliant month riding scooters all over Goa and then having a side trip to Hampi for a few days.

The Keralan Backwaters are only a day or so's travel away, Lakshadweep's not much further, Tamil Nadu can be reached by an overnight train from Margao, etc etc.

We're def up for going to Hampi!

The idea has changed a lil bit.. we've found cheap rtn flights to Mumbai so we'd prolly do that rather than the package deal idea. Then train it down to Goa... it's a bit more of an adventure that way. 12 hour train ride!!

Renting a scooter sounds cool and it would be so nice to have the freedom to just wake up and decide to go off on a mission to wherever...

It's a nice train journey down from Bombay to Goa but can be worth booking in advance in season as seats go pretty quickly. You can do it online but the website used to be almost incomprehensible - dunno if it's any better these days.

If you're going to Arambol get off at Pernem (sometimes known as Pednem or Pedne on the map, confusingly :D ), don't go all the way to Margao (also known as Madgaon  :D). Pernem's the nearest stop and the rickshaw / taxi ride you get from the station to Arambol goes down by the Terekhol river - it's absolutely beautiful. :)

If you do go to Arambol, please tell Diego at the Dream Catcher that Jamie from England says hi. :)

Make sure you have a read of the menu. It's the cheesiest thing ever. I managed to get the phrase 'unique Goan/Indian hybrid' in there at one point.

Diego still doesn't know it's a joke. :D

He's going to visit his friend over the weekend, he'll talk to her then but it looks very likely that we'll be able to go!:)

We rented this huge house in Goa for a month for about 50 quid IIRC. It had about 10 rooms. That said, it was very basic.

Had it been done up, it would have been utterly gorgeous.

Make sure you don't get confused as an NRI as well.

As for booking a train, when you book the seat on the train in Victoria station, go to the tourist desk upstairs to the far left. They will book a bed for you as a tourist you get priority. Also remember to book either 2nd AC (fucking freezing if you ask me and sealed tinted windows) or my personal preference 2nd Sleeper with the open windows (bit scummy but you get use to it) but always always book UPPER BIRTH, every time, allows you to hide away. You write UB in the seating preference column.

Its a nice journey Mumbai to Goa, so open windows and doors makes the most of it.

Ta! I'm really looking forward to this trip.. I watched the Paul Merton India programme last night, It made me even more excited! I could sleep after :o
