Sprats should be eaten whole.

dipped in flour and deep-fried is the only way I've tried so far ...

E2A I think ... :hmm:
Ohhhh yes yes!

Seasoned flour.

served with a hot chilli salsa (chopped toms, finely chopped red onion, lemon, minced chilled) and avocado!

Im that hungry now!

Minnie- chip to Peckham.

The fish shops there are cheap enough for you to try a bit of something new every week.

Go for fillets?

I always eat it on the day I buy it cos the fresher the better, but I reckon 2-3 days

Right, have a bit of leeway then. Really really want to try eating fish a bit more, especially now with mine and b/f's high cholesterol which now means I'm not buying him any lamb chops/steaks/pies etc. and am becoming stuck eating the same boring shit :D

Don't you shop at M&S? If you can afford to shop there, you can afford a bit of fresh fish every now and then.

Yeah, but not for everything.

I was in Iceland the other day buying milk, big box of tea bags, beans, tinned tomatoes etc.

I also shop in Sainsburys and my local shops

If you have a fridge at work, it's worth buying your fish on the way to work, cos you get the best fish. They also run out of some things very quickly.

hm, I'm already late for work every day. :D

What about trout. Is that expensive? I tasted trout once and it seemed ok

I don't know how much from a fishmonger, but it seems quite cheap in the supermarket - I'm not keen on it though

Right, I'm sure I've asked this before. I'm not into strong tasing fish, just stuff like cod, John Dory.

What else is similar please?

I've never bought fish from a fishmongers either. So shoot me :p

I'm allergic to quite a lot of fish though so I stick with what I know. I think that makes me a bit nervous about fish generally :(

I used to hate fish, but I decided that wasn't a reasonable thing to do, so weaned myself onto various white fish. My next goal is the oily fish like mackeral and herring.

I love mackerel. Isn't that just the same thing as herring?

I just find if I try something new, it makes me puke for ever so I'm slightly wary. Dogfish - pukorama. Sea bass (I discovered last week) - no puke. It's quite exciting really. I'm on a voyage of piscine russian roulette

Try Sea bream or some red mullet?

Is it the allergy that makes you puke? Or the taste? Or does worrying about puking induce the puking?

Allergy. I can't eat most shellfish but I'm willing to try new fish. I went as a guest of Giorgio Locatelli once to his restaurant and he gave us some fish things and I was violently sick at the restaurant and on the way home. Very embarrassing. :o

This thread made me open my can of polish sprats.

They were yummy - though they'd taken the heads off. :hmm:

But it was a weird, flat tin oil leaked everywhere ...

On average two tins of sardines a week (on toast). Plus usually two main meals of fresh fish. Something like salmon, haddock, cod, rainbow trout or whatever takes my eye.
