The great thing about cool glasses is that they make you look ever so slightly intimidating. As I have a face which is about as intimidating as a girl guide, this is of great importance :)
I'm beginning to appreciate how cool I can look in my glasses, I can look quite haughty in a naughty secretary kind of way ;)

I go for the Specsavers 2 for the price of 1 offer. And usually pick frames in the £75 of £85 category.

:)

Same here.

Last lot of glasses I walked out with 2 pairs of regular specs and 2 pairs of prescription shades for about £260.

alas i'm going to have to go back to spec savers as the glasses give me a headache if i wear them for extended time, not a problem normally as I don't wear them for extended time, except for driving

the prescription is fine, but i'm getting a headache, urban glass wearers, whadya reckon the problem is?

Are you sure the prescription is fine?

I bought some prescription sunglasses fro D&A and never wore them because they gave me a headache.. when I finally gave up, and went to another opticians to have my eyes re-tested, I found that D&A had given me the wrong prescription.. in fact, the optician didn't actually test my eyes at all, he just said "same as before!" and like a mug, I didn't question it.

Hence, I'm never going to set foot in the charlatans again.

I've just bought some fab Chanel frames, cost £185. Not going to get my eyes tested until I've been signed off from the eye hospital later this year.. but generally pay about £200 per lens.

i'm going back down there at the weekend, cos there's certainly something wrong with them, i'll take my battered old pair along, and getthem to check the prescription, i can definitely see better with them, but i don't want to see better with a headache

Whilst headaches are not unknown amongst wearers of lenses intended to correct squints or when adjusting to major changes in lens prescription. It could well be that the optical centres of each lens are not properly centered over your pupils - which effectively forces you to squint needlessly for a large part of your normal viewing time & can easily cause headaches.

Apparently this is a not uncommon mistake & ought to warrant you getting a new & properly alligned set of lenses promptly & for free as it is entirely the optical lab's mistake.

My current ones are from Specsavers - a student offer for £50 quid a couple of years ago. I usually spend a little more than that though, normally for lenses that go dark in the sun.

cheers, let's hope so, i'm marching in there on saturday morning :)

I get financial assistance when I purchase mine, because of my complex prescription... I find the £20 comes in very handy against a final bill of around £600

£45.00 from Specsavers, got them last week, do I win?

Nope. £9.99 from Superdrug or Woolies. But then a lifetime of not wearing the damn things hasn't habituated me into making sure they're always present. So I've done £9.99 from Superdrug or Woolies over and over again and now have glasses in every pocket and on every horizontal surface at home, and still I can't lay hands on a pair when I need to read something.

don't wear 'em, once you succumb to specs, your eyes only seem to get worse, no?

It's more of a psychological thing. Once you wear them, you become accustomed to better clarity, so your unaided vision seems worse.

With regards to costs, I used to work in the industry, and the markup is horrendous!

Most generic brand lenses only cost a few quid each, and the so called "designer" frames are usually crap quality (even some of the genuine branded designer frames), and also cost a fraction of the retail price.

Personally, I'll be getting my next specs from one of the cheapo online suppliers. At least I know that their markup isn't taking the piss (although they oviously haven't got the additional retail overheads).

I got two pairs of rimless specs from these people in Hong Kong for £80. I was very pleased with the quality. You can get 6% extra off the price with a code from Money Saving Expert if you're spending 60 US Dollars or more. There's lots more information about cheap specs here including a link to the discount.

They're not proper glasses though - just reading glasses with no prescription - probably not advisable for the health of one's eyes.

I'm blind as a bat and I need special lenses (otherwise I'd end up with bottle ends for lenses) and they are the most expensive bit... I usually spend about £70 on the frame and I change them every 3 years or so... My last pair cost over £250... :(

Mine exceeded the amount listed on the poll. :o Not because I'm vain or have loads of money but just because of the type of lense needed and that I have the coated lenses to stop glare of lights when I'm driving at night....all boring safety type reasons.

Around £100 once I get conned into having assorted coatings on the lenses.

Do they really make much difference? I got the money back from work for my last pair, which I don't like as much as I thought I did, so I might get myself some fancier ones when I'm a bit more flush.

They are a part of your face so I don't mind spending £300 or so for good uns.

I wear contacts most of the time anyway. Japanese one day activues are only £10 a box and I also reuse them about 3 times.

get those designer ones on BOGOF but still end up spending over £200 once you have all the lenses and stuff :(

me too. If you have a strong prescription, it is the lenses that cost a fortune.

Yep - I'm a contact lens guinea pig :)

Are you testing those ones that bend your eye? Its like the latest thing in contact technology but it sounds well freaky to me. They offered me a pair but I was like "Uh Uh mofo".

That sounds good where can I get them?
