How much do you really remember of books you read?

I'm already there, if a little uncouth :D

First one I read of hers was Shikasta - fascinating  Every turn of the page had me going 'ooOOhhhh' in recognition (if you read the book, you'll know what i mean by that:D). Started reading The Marriages Between Zones Three, Four, and Five, but got a bit distracted, and then didn't carry on with the series. BUT - at some point, I'm going to re-read Shikasta and then read the rest.

I read Memoirs of a Survivor a couple of years ago, but that could do with a re-read too - do remember thinking it was excellent

heh

:D

I love that, when a book just echoes inside you. Just to quote Doris again:

That is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you've understood all your life, but in a new way.

Although I see reading as entertainment on one level, it is almost always also a learning process as well, learning to become a better human being.

I recommend The Golden Notebook, if you have not read it already.

another fantastic quote dilly - my life has actually changed because of certain books, and my whole way of thinking on more than one occasion.

I think I've got the Golden Notebook on my shelves somewhere. But like Doris says...;)

Oh - and Shikasta - wiki says "The story alludes to the Old Testament, Gnosticism and Sufism..." ;)

Last Xmas I read a book and then some months afterwards saw some posts in here that looked very familiar. Sure enough a poster was writing almost word for word from that book and passing it off as their idea.

A twunt of the highest order!

I knew that purchase of the world's worst 100 jokes would catch up with me... :(

Who was it? I admit I have done that once or twice.

:o

Although I am sure I did vaguely I got it from somewhere or other apart from me brain.

I've done the starting a book and realising that I read it before thing. I know I did it once with a Kurt Vonnegut book, as I read a bunch of them close together and lost track of which ones!

Name and Shame!!!

I have a pretty good memory for books - best for those I really like. Certain passages and phrases I can recall word for word. Bizarrely though, my memory for films is virtually non-existant. Characters, plot, scenes, dialogue - I forget almost completely to the point where I'm often sure I've seen a film, but have absolutely no idea what happens in it. Or I start watching something and experience the creeping realisation that it seems awfully familiar... :D
