Doh! Voted wrong, cos I assumed the bath of buttery righteousness was the first option :D

Wot stig said.

If you made, say, a tomato sandwich, and only buttered one slice, it would be grim by dinnertime.

I wouldn't butter a peanut butter butty, though.

I think it's just normal tbf.
This. It's logical. None at all and it'll be too dry to eat. Put it on just one side and it'll be so lopsided the filling will probably fall off, or eating it will make you dizzy.

Put it on both sides, please. Both.

Butter is just plain wrong - one side, both sides, liberally slathered about ones person, all WRONG WRONG WRONG!

Peanut butter is gut wrenching vile anyway, irrespective of other butter related concerns.

Dervish is an evil, evil person...:(

You sir, are a fucking weirdo.

You have the palate of a crack baby weaned solely on the effluent from a brewery, or marmite as it's more commonly known.
:p

i always feel alittle short changed by people who only butter one slice when they make me a sandwich :(

I never knew there were people who did it differently......
If this thread is teaching me one thing it's that people will never agree on anything, full stop.

It's never happened but I would probably punch them. Even strangers know from the way I watch them when they make it that they'd better butter both sides.

I don't mind the taste of butter but I don't want it on a sandwich. I love the taste of quality bread and I like to taste whatever I put on it too, butter or spread would spoil it for me. There's also the consideration of unnecessary calories, I like to avoid 'em.

Depends on the sandwich for me.

If I am having mayonnaise or mustard on the sandwich then no butter. If no other liquidy, spready type product then butter.

If sandwich toasted, always butter.

None.
I don't make sandwiches very often but I never put butter or spread on bread, I don't like the taste and the way it seems to stick round your teeth.
I just like the filling on it's own.

Seriously - all you non-buttery/one-buttery people are fucking deviants and you must be stopped at any cost for the good of all humanity and sandwiches.

I always thought it was odd why they always ask you in the sandwich shop if you want any butter. Now I know why. Freaks.

What are people's views on the use of butter on cheese on toast?

Both slices of course, and that's not a northern thing :D

If I have mayo in a sandwich then no butter please, and I don't like butter in hot sandwiches. :o

/fussy eater

Of course you put it on both bits of bread.

Come to think of it, the bread is pretty much only there as a delivery mechanism for the butter....
