Who said it was more impressive?

I'm not in the least bit impressed, surely impressiveness is in the eye of the beholder so to speak!
I was just being a dick becuase I'm envious, what with never having been to America.

To be honest I've so far found china a not very impressive place to travel in. You go to Hainan and Haikou just looks like everywhere else in china albeit a bit cleaner, the beaches aren't a patch on Thailand, and so many cities around the country all look the same, all endless factories and smoke stacks and so on.

When you go to places outside 'China proper', out of Han territory, it gets a bit more interesting, but you have to go pretty far just to see stuff that you can see considerably more easily elsewhere in Asia.

Never been much one for just seeing places, what's interesting is the people you meet. All sorts of amazing stories and lives as big history shakes everything up. Used to travel a lot looking at various development projects and interviewing the people in all sorts of backwaters.
There's plenty of good mountains and forgotten mediaeval towns, though it's true the really spectacular scenery I've seen was mostly out West.

Following on from Derf's "Where Have You Been?" thread... how many of the United States and Territories have you visited? Airport transfers and non-stop drive-throughs not counted--you must have at least eaten a meal in each. Here are mine:

Why would you need to count if you know you've done them all but two?

Mind you, a lot of people think there's 52 states, including some Americans. Probably because there are 52 cards in a deck and 52 weeks in the year I should imagine.

New York
Maryland
California
Nevada
Texas

that's by the criteria in the OP. We stopped a couple of times for drinks driving back and forth from NYC to Baltimore (yeah, that's how I roll - I was in B-more way back in Summer of 2001) - but I don't remember if we ate anything. I think maybe we did - but I'm not sure which state we were in?

edit - this is me (no, really - it is) about to hit the bars around the Baltimore Harbour area with some mates.

nah not all, was off the top of my head - If I said all, then it was all on the list, but I dont recall Nebraska for example - then again I suppose not many do - Just going through the list, mentally ticked them off and couldnt be arsed to do my own :D

all overland as well - best way to see the place

The politics and whatever aside, its probebly one of the best countries to wind your way around if you have the time & inclantion

Gosh. Did they know what had hit them? :)

heh - i must find the photo album and hook up the scanner - there's one of me arms round a couple of B'more firefighters/EMTs... if you squint i bet they could look like Po-leece. But tbh, it's a bit depressing seeing how thin i was, so best i don't go there.:o
