I have not bought a CD for myself since 2001. I have bought a few CDs for others who are backwards and still listen to CDs.

I download all of my music for free. I have paid for about 4-5 mp3s because I couldn't find them anywhere else at the time.

I think the only things I've bought on cd/download legally recently have been Musical scores.

But they're the kind of thing where it's just easier to buy as a cd because downloading track by track would be painful.

i occasionally buy downloads and generally buy a few CDs each month. i do download a fair bit of stuff via torrents and soulseek - some of the time it's stuff i already have on vinyl, but most of the time it's stuff i haven't got. if i download something that's on a small label or from an artist that's not "big time" i try to make a point of eventually buying a proper copy. i prefer to have a hard copy rather than just MP3s, and i like having an actual product with artwork as well, and i think people should be paid for their work. although my list of things i need to go and buy is gradually growing a bit too much...

I have an emusic subscription for 75 downloads. (I don't get it for free though ) I don't actually use it much - I have to set myself reminders in my calendar so that I use the downloads up before it runs out each month. Mostly I get old jazz and hip hop from it.

_Very_ occasionally I'll buy an individual song from iTunes if I've heard it or heard of it somewhere.

Apart from that I buy the odd CD in charity shops sometimes. I don't really download a lot illegally either. In fact, these days I don't get nearly as much new music as I used to. I don't know, I just don't seem to have the urge any more, it's quite depressing.

i just use spotify all the time, kinda feel bad about not paying, but to be honest music artists are gonna be ridicolously rich either way, so meh dont feel bad for long

Not all artists are gonna be rich, for every band that makes a fortune, there are thousands of quality bands that scrape along.

Combination of torrents and legal downloads.
Also buy CDs and Vinyl.

Once I've bought the CD though, it usually gets ripped straight away and rarely played as a disc.

I buy used CDs from Amazon (say two a week) because they're really cheap and although I mostly listen to music on my pc I like having the CDs as physical back up. It also cheers me up to get CDs in the post!

I subscribe to Spotify and use it to find new music I like.

I have used iTunes in the past, but I much prefer having the CD myself. For one reason, I don't like the idea of having to pay to replace my purchased 128k tunes with 256k versions. Next thing you know, Apple will be offering the opportunity to buy the same tunes again in a lossless format.

I rarely pay for music unless I can't find it for free anywhere and know i'll listen to it for a while then I'll pay for it, and it's always a download. Still have a load of cds but they all go onto the pc/external hard drive.

I've had a £15 Itunes voucher since christmas and i cant find anything on there that I can't for free.

Me too...

It puzzled me for a bit but I hear a lot of live music, go to a fair amount of music nights and spend time with friends who have differing music collections. Also there is things like Spotify, Youtube and other places that give me the chance to just dip in and out of stuff as my mood suits.

When a band I am really grateful too for their music releases a CD I generally buy it pretty quick.

i buy lots and lots of vinyl, buy the odd CD, get given lots of burnt/ripped CDs, never really got onto the whole p2p thing- i know loads of people who have just downloaded shedloads of shit they never listen to...

I buy Vinyl and CD's mostly. Very rarely I'll buy a download off juno 'cos it isn't going to be released in a physical format I buy the wav file in that case.
I do download free mixes that DJ's have to promote themselves and a few essential mixes.

Like others have said I like the physical feel, artwork and ritual of using vinyl and CD's. Also having to pay makes me much more fussy about my collection and most of my records are still great to my ears today.

However I am very lucky to have the space to store all my music and the relative security of staying in my own house for a good few years yet. If I was single and flat hopping the idea of a physical music collection would be a complete nightmare.

I buy vinyl, or if not available then CDs.
Mostly of bands I've just seen and enjoyed, as I tend to buy them direct from them as well it cuts the middlemen.

I do also download stuff... at times but the frenzy of the novelty of broadband has worn off a long time ago.
