Does it show up in the browser stats?
Yep. Here's the totals for this month so far:

Code:
 OS - hits - %
  Windows XP 8185117 73.9 %
    Windows NT 3763 0 %
    Windows Me 150967 1.3 %

Windows accounts for nearly 92% of all visitors.

I wouldn't install Vista on my own pc's until all the issues that would affect me have been addressed.
Also I don't like being treated as a noob by my O/S. Micro$haft could have easily written a simple install questionaire to taylor the install to suit the user rather than treat us all as IT incompetents.

It does look attractive, but the desktop feels so similar to Sabayon Linux which comes as good as if not beter than a Vista package FOC.

It took me forever to migrate from win98 to 2k, and again forever to go from 2k to xp (my 3 kids pc's are all still on 2k as I find its easier to manage them under 2k)

And another two developers in my team have switched to Ubuntu at work. One because he got a new system and Vista isn't allowed at work. (It hasn't been certified, and is unlikely now to be until late 2008/first quarter 2009)

The other dev has heard from the other ones who switched to Ubuntu how it makes working easy + quicker and wanted to get the improvements as well... Windows is now a minority O/s in our team, and is slowly losing traction in the Development function. :D

Is that *raw* hits...? I'd be more interested into it being broken down into something more representative of actual people...
Working off the .org stats, there's been 150,973 unique users in February 2008.

89.9% of them are using Windows OS. And of that figure, 11.7% are using Vista, registering 2,676,116 hits.

Do the math.

No... "Hits" are the raw measument of pages downloaded off a web-server and not terribly useful for tracking actual people...
No! Really? I'd never have guessed! Strewthblimey.

So why do you think I included the total of unique users along with the percentages of Windows/Vista users?

Um... I was answering a reply by Gentlegreen who was wondering if I was working for Microsoft. I don't. I thought perhaps it was because of the request for stats, so I gave a little explanation.

Not sure why this needs three times rolling-eyes...?

I'd expected quite a gap between respondents on the computer forum and the general population, by the way - after all, people here are much more likely to be early adopters, or even, you know, give a shit. I've always been of the opinion that the only way Vista will ever get any decent market share is if it creeps in via a combination of OEM sales and removal of support for older OSes - the number of yer average users who will dump XP, given that it does what they want and they know how to use it, for Vista, which they'd have to actually buy or go to the effort of pirating, for no huge perceived benefit, will be quite small. And that's of course regardless of whatever improvements there may or may not be - they don't really matter in practice.

The only thing that pisses me off about Vista is the DRM in the sound card drivers.

I have to rip stuff in a VM copy of XP or Linux.

Until they sort out the way it handles audio I'm never going to use it.

What effect does the DRM in the sound card drivers have?

I'm on XP on my home and work desktops and my three year old laptop. About to buy a new desktop. Was going to go for Vista but from what I've heard today I think I'll stick with XP, as I do quite a lot of audio stuff.

Don't get this at all. I've ripped lots of CDs, and then burned them to disc or to mp3 players. What is it you can't do?

My last work laptop came with Vista installed on it, though I mainly used Ubuntu as my OS on it. Vista seemed to occupy a massive portion of my RAM just to run, and even on a fresh install with 2 gigs of RAM seemed pretty sluggish :(

If I get a choice, next time, I'd probably get it dual-booting with Ubuntu / XP.

You can't take a copy of the digital stream from the sound card. This is often used for echo cancellation and recording stuff like real player and windows media streams from the internet.

Wow. That's really pants.
