I had no, nil, zilch, zero, nix, pancakes yesterday. Not that I don't like pancakes, I love 'em, but yesterday was curry. I could have made chapattis to go with it which would have almost been pancakes, but no; I had rice.
I will have pancakes some other time or times. I often have them as a snack regardless of the date. I put marmalade or marmite on them - (I can imagine the expressions of disgust on your faces). I don't see why I should have them on a fixed day each year and only then. I am not a member of any of the religions that do the pancake thing and I think it weird that people celebrate 'pancake day'. I notice that they have the pancakes on the day but don't follow through with the fasting period.
Pancakes - yes, pancake day, no.
The same with plum pudding, why can't I buy what is called Christmas Pudding all year round. I want some now.
