For me it's more of a 'living on the NE coast of Scotland and having crap circulation' thing, so I need/used to need wool socks in the winter.
Not remotely sock related, but an interesting aside....
I've long believed that I have crap circulation, based on the fact that my extremities are always cold - people are forever commenting on it, cold hands, cold feet, cold whatevers...
Yet paradoxically, I'm always hot. At least, I always feel hot.
Now my, no doubt embarrassingly amateurish, explanation for this is that crap circulation should make you
hotter, not colder.
Here's the science bit: If you've got good blood flow, why would your extremities be cold? By that, I mean cold to the touch. Lots of warm blood flowing == warm pink bits. I've spent years putting up with people saying "oh, aren't you cold" at the slightest touch. Which would, logically, seem to be the result of poor circulation. But I never feel cold - quite the opposite. Which whilst superficially appearing paradoxical, makes perfect sense to me. If I've got rubbish circulation, then all my warm blood is polling in the body core - resulting in an overall raised core temperate, making me feel permanently hot.
Discuss.
