I also keep all mine in their boxes. Right now they have a about four shelves in one closet, but I think I can rework the sheets to give them more of the closet as I get more.

Long boots, over-knee boots, short boots, ankle boots, strappy sandalls, flat sandalls, trainers, work shoes, allstars, evening glittery stuff, flip flops, jelly sandalls, pointy ones in bright colours, ankle strap pumps, ballet flats.....more than one of each...how many's that?

Mine are in dust bags in two of those plastic folding crates you can get. I've about 30 pairs. I could get rid of about 10 of those I reckon.
<plans to get rid once arrives home>.
No such thing as too many shoes, the only problem I have is not enough storage space. Just had a look round my bedroom:
