How many of your 'five a day' did you eat yesterday, and what were they?

Perhaps, although when I looked into this once, ages ago, I was surprised at how little you had to eat to count as a portion. I eat enormous dinners, so I tend to assume that even if they contain the only fruit and veg I eat all day they're probably sufficient. :D

Have you seen the photo I did of just 3 portions of veg?

Depends how you make them and if they are part of a balanced diet.

You'd only be getting fruit though, unless you'd be happy to drink liquidised veg (which personally I think would be a bit grim).

You'd also probably be consuming quite high amounts of sugar.

BTW, smoothies don't only count once, because unlike juice they contain the whole of the fruit. So as long as they are different fruits each time, they will count. I eat one smoothie a day, which contains four different fruits although I only count it as one portion because there are small amounts of each fruit in it (oranges, banana, peach and pineapple).

one - peas :D

the lure of buying frozen food from the supermarket proved too much :o

however, today i'll get my five portions. i eat really well in the week as a rule and only slack off at weekends.

I bet a 'portion' worth of garlic is a fuck of a lot tho.

Oh, and :

Potatoes and other related vegetables such as yams and cassava do not count. This is because they are classified as starchy foods

Suckerrrrrrr

Yesyerday;
Pear, apple and goji berry stewed together = 3
Alfafa sprouts with my fish = 1
Blueberries and grapes with some soya yogurt = 2

I eat quite alot of fruit so I usually have no problem with the five a day.

NHS website said:
A glass (150ml) of 100% juice (fruit or vegetable juice or smoothie) counts as 1 portion, but you can only count juice as 1 portion per day, however much you drink

Smoothies only count as 1 portion regardless of how many you drink.

their reasoning doesn't make any sense though, so i ignore it. a potato is a vegetable. they are just sayign it doesn't count for the stupid people who would be like "cool we can just eat chips all the time".

See it doesn't make sense.

Part of the article says it's partly about getting fibre in your diet. So wheetabix and all bran also count as vegetables.

As would bread. So a chip butty is 2 portions. :)

But wheat is. :p

Worked out a bit ago you can get 5 a day from a big fry-up, namely beans, onions, mushrooms, tomato and orange juice, leaving you free to eat whatever the fuck you like for the rest of the day! :D

The article states that the 5-a-day thing is partly to get fibre into peoples diets. Bread and other grains contain fibre so (should) count as vegetables.

that doesn't follow. that's like saying "postboxes are red, that car is red so it must be a postbox"
