How many live bands/acts did you see in October?

But there's the rub. Unless you go down and support those pubs putting on live music, their budget gets progressively smaller until all they can afford is shit bands!

Unfortunately I think that that has already happened here.

There are no pubs less than a couple bus rides away from here (and a taxi back) that have regular live bands apart from the odd open mic night at one local that I can think of, and I live within a mile of the city center.

It's a sad state of affairs.

As myself and a lot of my mates used to do for a fair few years a decade or so ago

Sadly though, most of the venues we used have since been closed or knocked down leaving mainly the council run ones who charge that much for the hire it's too big a risk for most small promoters. So they will put stuff on in Brum etc where there is more of an audience.

What about live jazz in pubs over Sunday lunchtimes, does that count, even though it's not usually a named band?

Actually, I've seen a few mates play together for a mate's wedding (the rehearsal and the main event) and they were really, really good. And I saw a band called The Cedars in May, and they were also good.

Why hmmm? If I like a tune, I like how it sounds on the recording. Always fucks me off hearing something live and it not being as good as the recording. Hence me loving a good DJ, but not loving most gigs.

I review gigs for local press and music mags, but October was rather a dry month. Er...You Me At Six, Frank Turner, The Cities, The Black Kids, The Strangeways......maybe some more, I can't remember, heh.

11 to 20 as I went to Iceland Airwaves and saw loads and loads of great bands over 4 days. And the beer was even affordable what with the economic collapse and all that. Usually it would be more like 2 or 3 I reckon.
