How many Linux users are there here?

Slackware 12.1

It's great, if you've got a LOT of time on your hands. I run XP on my main box though, mainly for games and music programs.

Arch linux most of the time. Suse, Mepis & Puppy linux installed on other partitions. I also have a Win98se partition for old games

So that's a "quin boot" setup - do I win?

nah.. you LOSS....you use all the Flavours I find the most bitterest....even 98! :D

Mac_Ubuntu 8.10_virtalbox:XP on a Mac Mini. :p

neek :::

A word used predominantly by Chavs to describe anyone with an ounce of brain or generally anyone who doesn’t listen to shitty monotonous R&B, wear a huge hoody and txt the guy standing nearest to him with his stolen Nokia phone.

Generally a neek is someone who has had some academic success, told a joke that needs a certain amount of intellect to understand or expressed a dislike to Rap / R&B / Garage.

A neek is someone who will grow up and go on to be successful, while the “cool” kids find out that their street cred and their stolen phones don’t mean shit to anybody in the real world.

Chav: Your such a neek
Neek: *I’m going to move away now, the smell of cigarettes and saliva is repulsing me*

ubuntu at work, red hat on the servers.

vista at home cos it's easier and for teh pokers.

I don't understand why anyone would dual boot anymore. If I wanted linux at home I'd just stick it in virtualbox or something.

Ubuntu 8.10 at home

Windows mostly at work, but I do have a RH server and a couple of Fedora test boxes

derail...soz... I jus I keep on fergetting to mention & don't want to harp-on but....

vista at home cos it's easier and for teh pokers.

you dooo knows that all that money is "used" to create tensions & undermine Politics in South America innit?

look at Dikshit & the Gibraltar connection...Suitcase Gate?

no disrespect lke... caveat emptor & all that. :)

On my main machine (which has dead mobo atm ) I have ubuntu studio, OSX86, Vista and XP. Also soon to add Windows 7 the moment my new mobo arrives.

Debian here.

How does Debian compare to Ubuntu. I know Ubuntu is based on Debian. If I wanted to use Debian could I do everything I could do on Ubuntu? From what I have read Debian is kept as up to date as Ubuntu. What's your view on this?

Cheers.

@ChrisC. I think Debian lacks some of the 'ease-of-use' that Ubuntu has. The main reason I'm using it is because it's what I started off in Linux with, subsequently I'm pretty used to it. I believe that all the software packages that are availlable pretty much the same though.

When I look on the Debian website there is so much to download. Where do I start? I'm looking at using Debian 5.0 the unstable version that Ubuntu is based on. Don't get me wrong Ubuntu works well. I just like playing with different version of Linux.

Can I run linux as well as vista?
I have a custom made pc with a massif hard drive.

Yes you can! I am currently posting this from a pc that can boot Vista ultimate, Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid ibex, Mac OS X 10.5, or openSolaris!

I have to say I don't really use Mac OS or Vista unless I HAVE to, My OS of choice at the moment is Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid ibex as it does everything I need without too much pissing about.....

The best way is use the "netinst" installer, then you only have to download what you want to install. Stable is here and Testing is here. I don't think there is one for Unstable, but you can install a base system and then upgrade to Unstable. I use Testing.

Using the netinst now.

Trying in VirtualBox first. :)

my samsung nc10 runs very nicely with ubuntu 8.10.. so nicely that yesterday i permanently deleted my windows partition.
other computer runs osx

Gentoo at home and on my Acer Aspire, with windows based gaming courtesy of those fine folk at Wine HQ. I also have Ubuntu 8.10 on an old lappie for my parents with an Ubuntu usb pen for testing on my PC.

Redhat/Centos for work.

Dual boot with Puppy 412 and Ubuntu 8.10. I also have another machine with Mint, three versions of Puppy and Ubuntu 8.10. My Puppy Linux is more a hybrid setup than pure Linux as under wine I run S7raw, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Firefox 3.1, Seamonkey 2 with flash and even a buggy version of Chrome :)
