I bought one of those and it was the worst thing I ever did to my face.

:(

It really shredded me - left me with welts and chewed hair and a lovely layer of "soothing" goo plastered over the top of the carnage.

Unless you are black or otherwise at risk from ingrowing beard, the best thing you can do for sensitive skin is shave with a simple wet-razor and a good gel/oil.

That said, you can get some excellent shaving soaps and creams for sensitive skin now too, so you're not just confined to oils and the contents of spray-cans.

5 blades here, this is because I could by a 5 blade razor set inc 3 free blades for the price of my original 3 blade refill pack.

Gillette sent me a mach3 or similar around my 18th birthday (must have given my details to someone) and have used that ever since.

Not sure what blades I use, but I bought a bog of 25 from Costco which set me back about £17. Given that I use a new blade every time I shave (face and head) but only shave every three months or so, I think I'll have enough blades to last me another year or two.

edit: there are three blades. Tad on the wanky side, but I'm not splashing out on an open-blade razor until I've used all me blades for the current one.

Gillette Sensor Excel
What I use, but they're getting harder to find. I imagine I'll have to move up to three blades sometime in the next couple of years. The gf bought me a 4-blade Wilkinson one when I first started to stay at hers.. Awful! Pulled like nothing else ever before or since.

I got one of these back in the summer, a Braun electric shaver, and it's great. I hate having to shave first thing in the morning when my brain's not working but with this I just shove it around my face for a few minutes and it's done. I still need to whip a couple of thick throat hairs off with a dry two-blade bic afterwards, but I can focus for the five seconds it takes to do that.

I'm holding out for them to offer up a mask contoured to my whole face, the inside of which is thickly covered with however many razor blades it takes to completely cover it.

Hold it close and still against one's face and slowly nod - just once - and allow it to take off every last hair in one pass.

never before has the phrase 'this^' been so appropriate

A real face-ripper.

The whole razor thing very much depends on how 'bristly' you are. Mine are quite tough fuckers so crappy little cheapo razors rarely last more than one go.

I recently bought a highly rated electric razor as an experiment and it hasn't been particularly successful. For me: two blades good. Three blades even better (but generally unaffordable).

There are some things that you do really need to splash out on.

Razors are one of them.

To be fair to Gillette, even though the replacement blades are a tenner, they last a lot longer (weeks longer with each blade, than the shite budget ones) and they give a far better shave than cheapo blades.

No blades I've ever used have lasted 'weeks' on my mush. If I get three shaves out of a razor, it's a result.

5 blade Gillette power thingy., got awkward thick stubble so i need it, far too expensive tho i reckon but needs must:(

i wouldnt mind splashing out on an expensive electric shaver but how r u supposed to find whats best for you??

Honestly, those Fusion blades are made out of the same stuff as Superman.

They are expensive initially at a tenner four, but they really do last about four weeks each blade.

:eek::eek::eek::confused:

You must be really hairy or have really thick hair that blunts the blades. My b/f has a beard and I can't use his razors for weeks no problem

I'm going to sound evangelical and "old fogeyish" here, but it may be worth investing a tenner in a good shaving brush, and £5-10 in some proper shaving cream such as "Erasmic", and following the directions. That way, your bristles are far more likely to get properly moistened and will come off more easily, regardless of whether you're using a two-blader, a three-blader or a cut-throat.

I think men should just wax their beards. I'd be willing to help them.
